If it did have it, you would likely be able to disable it, too.

I think the Prius system is a bit different than what's being talked about here. My wifes 18 Prius doesn't turn off every time we stop. It seems to only do it while stopped AND when the battery gauge shows fully or near fully charged. At that point it switches to battery power and will switch back to engine power when the battery gauge depletes a bit or if the car starts moving faster than a few miles per hour.

you've posted this story multiple times.

if you had the fan speed on max, it disables stop/start. and i'm positive there was something wrong with your vehicle if it was doing that while parking.

also... how lazy are you to not press the button to turn it off? like 99% of people on TW press the ECT button every time they get in the truck

not to mention there's at least one (probably more) OBD dongle that are available for jeeps that remember the state of any buttons that normally reset once the vehicle is off. i am sure there already are similar available for toyota products and definitely will be one available for the next gen taco when it comes out...

I have a ST and hate it too. How do you permanently disable it? I would love to do that.

    Wife's 2021 RAV4 has the start / stop feature.
Usually just hit the turn off switch for it when we crank it. It will also turn off if you switch to sport mode. I saw a permanent delete switch on Ali, but Im not sure I trust that site. Also don't want to mess with the wiring on a car that's under warranty. If you are easy on the brakes , the car won't turn off either

You really don't want that... All you need is half-a-dozen protesters to get into their cars, enter a round-a-bout, and never leave... essentially closing the roads...

You wouldn't think so, but it is. They put a bunch in my town and chaos ensued. I like them, but you really have to keep your head on a swivel for morons.

No and good. That feature would drive me batshit. Plus it's TERRIBLE to keep starting and stopping a naturally aspirated engine.

My parents recently got a 2022 Highlander which has the feature, HOWEVER Toyota and I think just Toyota made it so that it only shuts the car off if you press the brake pedal all the way to the floor, and it restarts for you if you let off slightly. In other words, you can control/prevent it from shutting off without pressing the little button every single time. Soo.. good job Toyota. My understanding is other makes don't do this; they shut off every time no matter what.

Cool cool... I'm just here to share my own observations, and didn't I see you get kicked off another thread last week for an "everyone is a moron" trip?

that isn't how it works in most cars either.

"most" cars use a variety of inputs, not just checking to see if the wheel speed is zero for more than 1 second. a/c status, force applied to brake, force being removed from brake, engine/fluid temps, o2 readings and more.

the systems have to actually do something other than trigger people on TW.

They added a bunch here. It’s not really a big deal... People who are scared avoid them and everyone else gets a quicker commute.
Every once in a while someone who’s afeared will hold up the line, yielding unnecessarily, but it’s usually not longer than a light cycle at an intersection
