Removing my Sherpa rack to sell -- how necessary is the weather stripping on the roof?

I had to cut the weather stripping to install the rack. But ultimately decided the rack isn't for me, so I'm pulling it off. (Anyone want it?)

I'll replace the stripping, but it's backordered. Just wondering how essential it is for water runoff in the meantime. There are threaded holes under there that I had to open up for the rack and I'll seal those with silicone. Seems like that should be enough since those strips up top aren't exactly sealed up tight. But looking for any wisdom.

Here’s my thread on the topic….

Waterproofing Roof After Roof Rack Removal

I’d say the weatherstripping isn’t really necessary but it will help protect your seals on the pre-drilled holes. The roof also looks super goofy without the weatherstripping lol I tried to leave it off and I just couldn’t deal with the way it looked.

It definitely won’t be an issue if you’re just waiting for the new weatherstripping to arrive.

Super informative. Thanks. And a good reminder to seal the hell out of those holes in the meantime.

No problem! It caused me months of headaches so hopefully that can prevent the same from happening to you.
