My 2021 TRD PRO ( automatic) rolls back when I put the truck in drive on a steep incline. It makes a load sound that I can only describe as a Jack in the box springing open. I think this happens as I hit the gas but it happens pretty fast ( due to the truck rolling backwards ) Any thoughts?

If I remember correctly, only TRD Sport or Limited have hill start assist, which is basically holding the brakes for you for half a second when you let go off the brake pedal on a hill.

Your Pro doesn't have that, and I wouldn't worry about it, automatic transmission doesn't mind rolling back because it has a torque converter instead of clutch pads.

Update: I think hill assist is now standard as of 2022 model year

    Could be the rear brakes.

I don't know how often you have to start off on steep inclines? You could hold the brake with your left foot, while accelerating. You could also use the hand brake while accelerating which would probably be easier.

To a point that is normal. Some vehicles are more noticeable than others. FWIW, my 07 Tacoma will hold for several seconds as I move from the brake to gas pedal on a pretty steep hill. My F150 is more pronounced. I need to hold the brake with my left foot as I'm pressing the gas with the right foot on steep hills.

The Hill Start Assist makes that noise, it sounds similar to the Crawl Control

My 2018 trd OR used to do it. I have a pretty steep driveway. Was super annoying.

I think it has been standard on all trim levels since 2016 except for the Manual Pro and Off Road. The Automatic Pro and Off Road have a different Brake Booster than other trim levels so it operates a little differently causing the noise.

Mine would sound like crawl control or atrac. ABS clicking like crazy. It doesn't allow the truck to move forward since it's braking. So you just roll back while your truck making automatic machine gun noises.

Yeah the manual sport will release after about 2 seconds or if you apply throttle (whichever comes first). It just releases though, no chatter or whatnot.. which makes sense.

I think there is a Thread on here somewhere about 5 or 6 years old that had everyone's experiences with HSA, will have to see if l can search for it and Bump it.

Have not noticed myself. I use a foot on the brake and use the accelerator pedal until I can move forward.

We don't have hills/inclines here in middle Delaware so I can't really test the "hill assist" on my '21 Sport.
