Battery terminal wire guage

I am replacing my OEM battery terminals and have a question about wire gauges. I am installing the SDHQ Terminal kit (https://sdhqoffroad.com/collections...hq-built-complete-billet-battery-terminal-kit). My concern is about the negative terminal wires:


You can place the negative terminal as is on the SDHQ billet terminal but I am a little worried that the grounding wire (B) might not contort enough to do so.

This would mean that I would have to cut A and B near the OEM terminal. SDHQ sells a solution for B (https://sdhqoffroad.com/collections...-6ga-negative-battery-to-body-16-ground-cable) but for A I would need to use one of their crimpers (https://sdhqoffroad.com/collections...-electrical/products/sdhq-compression-lug-kit).

And here are my two questions:
1. What gauge is wire A?
2. Has anyone every put on the SDHQ terminal and just gone with attaching the OEM terminal to the SDHQ terminal and, if so, was cable A a problem in terms of contorting it into position against the body?

As I have mentioned I am a electricity noob and yes there have been a few threads on this but none has unequivocally answered these questions (as best I can tell).

I did exactly what your wanting to do. I first bought the compression lug they sell and was not impressed. I cross threaded it and ruined it 5 minutes after I got it. So I bought one of these

For the ground, I bought the replacement ground cable from SDHQ that you mentioned. Looks better than factory and there is absolutely no way that new lug is coming off. That crimp tool does an amazing job. The lug I bought was for 2 gauge wire and fit perfectly so I assume the factory cable is 2g.

If you have an auto electric shop around they will have everything you need. My local shop has built me many replacement cables for different equipment over the years for a reasonable price.

The crappy type below will get you home in an emergency but are poorly made junk, don't even bother with them.

So basically it looks like you find the dies that fit the circumference of the battery connector and then put the connecter in and tighten down until the dies are snug enough to the connector to hold it in place, then send in the stripped battery wire then tighten down? What is the significance of the on/off button?

 

That’s pretty much it. It’s hydraulic, so that knob releases the pressure after crimping. I just double checked my Amazon order history and see that I bought both 2 gauge and 4 gauge connectors. I can’t remember for certain which one fit, but one of those fit perfectly. Also, slip a piece of heat shrink over it once it’s done. I’d never used the tool before this and it came out perfect.

100%! I see so many "high-end builds" with them that it's not funny.

Also, look at your local farm store and any business that sells welding equipment as both will have many sizes of terminals and wires.
