Looks like I over torqued mine after the last oil change. When I went to loosen it the whole canister spun with it.

I went ahead and did the oil change and left the plug untouched. Any tips to remove it the next go around?

Maybe this solves, the issue, or will create another bigger one, but you could try over torquing the entire canister in place the next time. Hopefully you will now be able to remove the drain bolt in it.:D

Use a rubber strap wrench to hole the canister in place...and then try to remove the plug.

Maybe that guy in another recent post, who had the plastic canister in a vice holding the threads, was trying to do this.

Or get a brand new one from Toyota genuine parts, it's like $30 or something.

I wouldn't trust an over torqued one because who knows, something might have cracked and start leaking

Well truth be told it’s an aluminum one so doubt anything cracked…. Either way on Amazon now it’s $38 so maybe I’ll just buy another one…..

Try this... put your ratchet in the oil drain plug like you normally would. Then take a hammer and give the ratchet a quick rap on the end. Sometimes the impact will break loose a stuck nut or the plug in this case.

Nah. @mrcheap Just use a impact wrench on that plug. Remember the plug not the canister. It will loosen first before the canister. Done it before and it worked

They crack if using the older oil wrench version that grabs to canister housing ears. The new motivx tool doesn't do that...even if over torqued needing a long breaker bar.
