Should I buy a 2007 Tacoma?

That is an excellent price, especially considering the low mileage. Manual transmission Tacomas are hard to find in my area. maybe everywhere. Took me a long time to find mine.

 

TLDR: Go take a quick look at it and buy it

Check the fluids
Check the Vin and any history they have
Make sure it feels alright driving
Make sure engine bay doesn't look "funky"
Look at suspension (no leaky shocks or extremely flat leaf springs)
Hand the man your wallet
Shake his hand
Smile and drive away

 

Presently own a 08 Tacoma double cab off-road 4x4 that I purchased new and has 102k miles. I changed the front wheel bearings around 70k because they started humming like I had large off-road tires. I had to change the starter plunger and contact points because they wore down and had intermittent starting issues. Replaced the blower motor for the for the ventilation system because it was making a loud noise. All the issues manifested between 60k - 80k miles. I fixed / repaired all the issues. Last week I test drove a new 2022 double cab off-road 4x4 with a MSPR of 46k and a new 2022 Nissan Frontier Pro4X. I am staying with my 08 Tacoma. I say buy the 07 Tacoma but I would check the maintenance records if available and run a Car Fax report.

 

yes, this. but not just sludge, make sure there's no froth from coolant in the oil.

a few people are reporting head gasket leaks in the older models, but usually closer to 200k miles

 

I've got the 2007 Offroad 4X4 double cab automatic... bought new. So far i've had to replace a tail light bulb, sway bar link, and a outer tie rod end link (truck only has 33,500 miles though.) Llike mentioned check the frame for rust and the engine for oil leakage. Those "sport" seats are the same i have...they were part of the optional equip TRD offroad package... should include airbags. That truck will be gone quick at that price.

Edit: just noticed the rear mud flaps don't have 4X4 on them... is it a 2WD? If so the price isn't bad for around here... just wouldn't sell as fast. Going by the sticker on the driver side door panel and bed i assume it's got the locker?

 

I spent $20k on my 2007 a year ago, with 166,000 miles on it.

As I was buying it, another customer was trying to offer the dealer $2,000 more to snipe it from me, but I had already signed the paperwork.

I don't regret it at all, and I really needed a vehicle (my Subaru's transmission let go, and being a Baja, I couldn't even find a suitable replacement). I did get the TRD Offroad though, everything works really well (I use the 4X4, including low range) every weekend, and the difflocker gets used several times per winter.

 

When I looked at and test drove a 2005 or 2006 Tacoma in 2018, it was listing for I think $7995 with 192,000 miles on it. I was casually looking so was in no rush. The next week it was listed for $8995. Asked the dealer what's up with that? I was told customers got into a bidding match. Lower prices then of course, and the mileage was higher but it's not something new with Tacomas to sell higher than the listed price.

The dealer messed up paperwork on my 2007 I bought a few months ago, said I should have been charged $2,000 more. I negotiated and met him halfway. Getting mine for the price I did is unheard of these days. It's a 2.7L 4x4 with a 5 speed manual, which is exactly what I wanted. I wouldn't sell it for $3,000 more than I paid for it because that specific drivetrain would be nearly impossible to find again. I've looked, the few I did find were out of state, newer, and out of my budget.

Yours being a premium model with the V6 could still be listed close to that price today. In fact I've seen several 15 year old or so Tacomas going for $18-$20,000.

 

Is it a 2WD?

 

I think the main reason the dealer was able to get $20k from me for the truck I got is that the frame on it is absolutely cherry. It was either just replaced, or the previous owners never took it to a place with salt.

And on that note, I'm going to the coast for some beach driving, I'm going to make sure to wash the frame after I'm done.

 

Based on the picture, it looks to be in great shape. Assuming it has a clear title, no rust on the frame, etc., I'd buy it. I have an 07 with over 330k miles on it, and it's still running well. I've had it serviced for minor issues over the years, but not for anything major. You can easily get another 100k miles out of it.

 

Having a new frame is huge. Given a new truck would go for about double that, you got a fair deal IMO.

Wow! What engine? I'm new to Tacomas, so maybe it's a given being an OR TRD it would be a V6. I hope my 4 cylinder can get close to 300k.

 

The 4.0 and 2.7 are known for going the distance. I think the 3.4 might be a better engine for stupid long term durability, but the 4.0 isn't bad, assuming you keep up with maintenance.

I have 150K+ on my 07. Not had any mechanical issues. Only clock spring, paint & minor issues. That truck looks clean. The interior looks cleaner than mine but mine is a surf truck with sand & rust. Not sure about the price but 100K you should have many more yrs of fun.

 

2007 2WD with the offroad locking rear diff with fairly low miles. $14k seems like a fair deal since it's not a double cab or 4WD.
