    Hello All,
Thinking about replacing or rebuilding my motor. It has 385k and I’m getting what seems to be a misfire. Truck intermittently looses power. Is it worth pulling the v4 out and rebuilding or replacing?

Either way yes I would get it rebuilt

While that is a lot of miles.
A misfire and loss of power is not an indication the motor needs replaced or rebuilt.
I’d do a compression test and go from there.

Or at a very minimum check your truck with a scan tool.

    Are you burning oil?

Is the CEL on? Are there any codes? A misfire could be a coil pack, a bad plug or wire, clogged injectors... Need more info. That is a good many miles, but those engines can last a long time if properly cared for.

Just like others have already said. Don't jump the gun and assume it's the worst possible scenario. Have someone you trust look at your truck and do some tests first. If you can't do them yourself.
If you actually do need a new engine, then fine. But don't needlessly go there first.

All good info here. Only a leak down compression test will tell if the motor needs to be replaced, unless it’s something obvious like a noisey main bearing or plumes of smoke from the exhaust.
As mentioned above, intermittent issues are not a worn engine. Most likely a faulty electrical issue.

Yeah, leakdown test, compression test ALWAYS before opening up an engine that doesnt have any major knocking. Im going to bet a simple tune up (spark plugs, cleaning maf etc) and maybe a fuel pump replacement will get things running like a top again. Those I4s are stout.

Diagnose the problem for free and fix what’s causing it instead of throwing $3k at an engine of unknown quality

if you have another issue causing it that isn’t figured out such as another component worn, the issue will persist.
If the fuel pump is failing to deliver fuel, a new engine would run just as poorly as the current one.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Replace the valve cover and spark plug tube gaskets. You’re welcome

Thank you everyone who has been responding. I will be doing a compression test to figure out where the engine is at.

I threw a scanner on it and these are the codes I’m getting:

    0301
    0300
    0303

I hear no knocking and no smoking at all. Engine does have extreme hard starting but once it fires up, it runs super strong with no hesitation.
