I’m sure there is a charger somewhere but definitely not any place my truck was parked at during the weekend and on a quick trip like that I would be pissed having to waste time driving to a charger and waiting around to charge. Especially being hot as hell like it was. Hey kids let’s go on a camping trip and wait in a hot parking lot for our truck to charge.

I have a pretty big Champion generator to power my house for power outages. That should be able to charge the truck. The problem is it would take up most of the truck bed and I’d have no room for camping gear. The rest of the campground would love hearing the generator running all night. :)
An adventure truck incapable of short adventures sounds great.

i think most people who buy a rivian might have a different definition of "adventure" They might think an adventure is going to the grocery store without a mask on

Lol. Hey. I resent that one. I don’t own a generator and I go to the grocery store without a mask a lot. But still. I mostly see old people with masks, I guess people traveling too. But for real, How many solar panels would it take to charge up a Rivian?

good question, i do have a portable solar panel in my emergency kit and it might charge up a cell phone after a few days... i would be shocked if it provided any significant charging ability.

Funny, I think the same about most Tacoma owners. Gotta get that Baja light bar so you can light the route to Dairy Queen and the ditch lights so you can emulate a Christmas tree when you park at the neighbors house for Christmas dinner. That lift kit really helps get one side up on the curb to be polite to suburban street space and the 33’s give you some fuel to post about your bad MPG!

edit: oh and you get to post about how your 33s don’t rub and you never understood why anyone ever needs a CMC or a fender trim… because you’ve never fully articulated.

More than you can reasonably carry in the truck and you'd never get a charge rate that mattered. The math says you'd need about 2300 watts of solar panels in ideal conditions to provide one mile of range in one hour of time.

Thee are a majority of stupid tacoma owners as you have described but paying 80k for a truck that doesnt offer anything more than the normal 40k tacoma is a whole other level of stupid.

It’s funny because I think the even dumber thing is buying a 40k truck and making 20k of off road mods on it to have a vehicle inferior to a 15 year old jeep.

But we all do silly things with money for fun.

My Taycan doesn’t get me from A to B any better than a Corolla but it sure is fun!

Offers nothing more? How about a much nicer interior, better ride quality, way more power, way more torque, no awkward engine/transmission tuning, higher payload, higher tow rating, longer suspension travel, better ride height adjustable suspension...the list could go on. The Tacoma also costs four times as much per mile driven, though that argument is a bit weak since it costs half as much to purchase.

Positive for Tacoma: so much aftermarket you can make it into what ever you want (even longer suspension travel)

yes and the negatives, limited travel distance before charging, long charging time, Smaller bed (and let me tell you the 60" bed of the tacoma is small enough), having to call a company to come get it to repair the vehicle because no one besides that company fixes them. You cant run out to autozone and pick up a part for it. All for 2x the cost. Gotta weigh whats important.

All of those things are great for commuting to work or driving around town but completely useless for doing real truck things. Why not just get a Tesla or other EV car for the high performance commuting activities?

There are plenty of trucks out there that offer that and more.

Rivian might beat them all in torqe horse power, and 0-60 times, but those are not things that translate well for daily real ife pick up use.

You can get a car that rides better than a truck, and out performs it. Even other EVs.

Rivian is a compromise of a truck for the driver who wants a BEV. That's before the battery wears down, and wont take a charge.

I'd like to see a 30 day comparison test between all 3 domestic 1/2 tons, Toyota Tundra and Rivian R1T, throw in the F-150 lightning just to show the gas F-150 will out perform the Lightning in real world daily use.

As someone who jumped from an Acura SUV with a much nicer ride, interior, push button start , better performance, MPG and all the unimportant things (to me) that some people justify for their purchases, you just have to find the vehicle that fits what you need to do. if rivian gets you high fives from the people who you think matter then by all means buy till your heart is content.

As many times as it takes to illustrate that cost is a subjective measure and that half of this forum would be equally suited to a Corolla and spent twice as much because a Tacoma is cool. The “you can do it cheaper” argument is an argument against ever owning a fun car or a sports car or a luxury car. It’s true fiscally speaking but irrelevant mostly.

    Different poster. :)
