I just learn if you serve 6 good years in the the National Guard. You can get a VA home loan.
You will need the the forms DD-22 & DD-23.

No one ever told us , mention that National guard members qualified for VA home loans after 6 years of service.

I just refinance two years ago, if I did qualified,I could have save 1% interest, and a smaller monthly payments.

Please contact your local State that you did your service duty.
Need DD-180 form, this is a request form to your local National guard to get copies of the DD-22 & DD-23. to submit to loan companies.

Always make copies! And keep them in a save place.
    My MOS was 92Y & 92G

    Awesome!

That's not just something you can get via Ebenefits or am I thinking of something else?

E- benefits are for those who serve on active duty. A few National guard units including one Hawaii were called to active duty. Therefore qualified.

VA benefits offers disability ,compensation, pensions, home loans, education, healthcare ,insurance, vocational rehabilitation, employment, and burial.
Best to visit your local VA office.

There are just a few benefits the VA offers to National Guard. Talk to your local Veterans Center.
If you have 20 plus years of National Guard served . Visit the VA center.

    Ahhh that makes sense.

I did 4 years active duty Marine Corps; just figured anyone having served in the military with any sort of benefits would have access to Ebenefits.

Still, good public announcement for those that don't know!

Hope you are taking advantage of the VA benefits! There is a lot they offer to our veterans.
The Coordinator mention even homeless Vets can collect up to a$1,000 a month. Plus healthcare. Etc.

The Coordinator was passing out information, she mention she wanted to start a fishing club for Vets. In West Hawaii. I mention I am not a Vet but I would like to help out. ( I did serve in the National Guard) There is so much benefits that is offer to our Vets.
I wish I new about the home loans years ago. Pass this on!

Whenever I run into vets, I try to share as much information as I can.

It's nice to see some states offer benefits as well for instance -

In CA, if you're a CA resident and have a disability rating of 50% or higher, you can opt for a Veteran pass that allows free entry to any CA state park.

For national parks in CA, you can get a veteran/disabled pass but the requirements are much less; don't even have to show a disability rating. It gives you the disabled person's discount.

Fishing license is also offered at a reduced cost as well.

For 100% disabled ratings, you're exempt from paying for tags on a personal vehicle.

Can't remember what else...fortunately a lot of this information comes up on a google search. I'm sure other states offer way better benefits seeing as how CA is huge, they really limit how many people receive any benefits at all.

Also many retail business offer discount on prices ,like Home Depot and Lowes, ( note Lowes is restricting certain products.) for Vets.

Lowes - Wish I could say nice things , but we must always be truthful.

I've gone on one and can say from personal experience it's a great thing to do, especially if you're a veteran who needs a reset and maybe a change in outlook. The programs are fully funded meaning the veterans don't pay for flights, gear, food, or anything else beyond their clothing and personal items.

Spread around the word, especially if you know or are a veteran that could benefit from the experience. Outward Bound is a fantastic organization.

Thank you for the more info’s.
I just got my forms back from our local National guard station located inside of the Diamond head crater next to Waikiki beach. They even have a gun range in the crater. I almost join the National guard sharp shooter team. ( I was in a hight school ROTC rifle team for 4 years. But at 18 years old just too much commitment for me at that time.). Ended up as a “Cook”. That was enjoyable. We had a good team.

Yes, 6 yrs traditional M-day; qualify for VAHL... Still pay the same points, but in most cases a very good, or slightly below market deal.... ESPECIALLY if you don't have 20% to put down... VAHL you do not have to pay PMI

FWIW; my first mortgage; I was all about going with the VAHL but, as my mortgage broker explained it to me; Being qualified for the VAHL makes you more attractive to lenders and can get you an even better deal... Thats exactly what happened to me. VAHL was [x], mortgage broker went to his open market and beat it by half a percent.

Additionally; 100% recommend; go to a mortgage broker. If you go to a bank or single source, your options may be limited, and they are naturally biased. Mortgage broker, yes he makes a living as a middleman of sorts, but he has hundreds of different lenders and can play the all to get the best deal for you.

Congratulations on your VA home loan!
I wish I knew about this 30 years ago. No one ever mention being in the National Guard for six years qualify you for a VA loan not even the mortgage companies. They just ask are you a Military Veteran. I knew as a National Guard men are NOT considers Vets unless activated by the Federal government.

Hope we can pass this “Updates” for all National Guard soldiers who did there time . Must be Honorable Discharged.
