Well now, you seem like a lot of fun… Yes, it’s unfortunate that OP’s hood has some kind of shit on it, but the best that we can do is GUESS as to what it is. We may never know for sure. I highly doubt that OP is upset at a single comment made thus far. It’s called lightening the mood. You should try it sometime. Life’s entirely too short to have a stick jammed that far up your ass. Learn to relax, even if just a little. I hope that you have a great day.

I thought about that but I don't THINK so. Could it have happened without my knowing? Yeah unfortunately I was away from the truck for about a week. But I feel like this one is unlikely.

I think I've come to the conclusion it's likely just tar that was too hot for the clear coat. Temps were over 100 degrees as I drove through the Carolinas on Friday, so a bit of sticky road grime may have done quite a bit of damage. I initially thought cigarette burn, but I don't THINK someone was angry enough at me or my truck to do that.

Sorry for the triple message - just wanted to clarify I know I would never get a clear cut answer. This thread was mainly just for discussion. BS around a "table" if you will about a subject I'm genuinely curious about.

I'll probably get it professionally repaired so it doesn't rust and move on. It's a truck and I knew it wouldn't stay pretty forever.

If you decide to fix it yourself, this channel has lots of good videos about fixing paint/bodywork: https://www.youtube.com/c/chrisfix/videos

I probably won't, unfortunately. I will gladly do anything mechanical but I am not good with paint. I hate prep work, and frankly don't have the equipment nor the storage for said equipment in order to get it done. Some jobs are best left for the professionals and for me, this is one of them :)

that looks like what happens when you leave caked on bird poop on the paint for too long in the sun. try to wash that stuff off as fast as possible. it's acidic and eats through the paint.

People are offering humor as a situationally appropriate form of empathy, given the lack of gravity of the situation. IE it's irritating and inconvenient, but nothing dire. The OP seems to get that, but somehow you don't.

Given the over reaction you've already displayed, I'm sure you'll take this next comment as some form of malice, but I assure you it's not: You should really consider seeking out therapy for whatever it is that has so obviously traumatized you.
