Just highlighting obvious issues that people seem to gloss over.

    You’re funny though!

The "grid can't handle it" has been played out thoroughly in this thread. You're not raising anything that people haven't already discussed.

We've got a ridiculous amount of home and commercial solar panel installations going on out here. If we push that more across the country the grid won't take a big of a hit and the grid needs upgrading anyway.

Edit: just to add the local walmart. Check out their solar array. No reason why we can't have these all over the place. You can essentially zero out your electrical usage but still have to pay for basic taxes and infrastructure updates. We had an average of a $250 a month electric bill. I think my bill is something like $25 a month now, panels are paid off after 6 years and I'm contributing between 20-25% of my electricity generated back to the grid. No reason the grid can't handle more EVs.

Most power outages are sporadic and local. The gas station on the corner does not have power. Drive two blocks, and the gas station on the opposite side of the street has power.

Not after major storms. We get hurricanes. No power for days, weeks or even months sometimes. I have a backup generator here that runs on natural gas. Cycled to run the entire house once a week for an hour. Love it.

Is that weekly usage just to ensure that it will be working when you actually need it?

Yep. It'll send alerts during or after the cycle if something is off and maintenance is required.

coming from a guy who works for an electrical engineering firm and works on the power grid.. i doubt it can handle it due the infrastructure. it would take billions of dollars and also more fossil fuel or nuclear power plants

Remember the fuel lines after say, Hurricane Sandy? Or the extended power outages?

We had gensets at work but most of my lights at home were being charged via a couple of camping solar panels.

That said, surge pricing exists for a reason - sure you can charge during say, late afternoon early evening but it'll cost ya more. That or you can charge at low overnight rates, etc - 'demand response' stuff plenty of utilities are working on.

We’re adding a lot of rooftop solar and those parking lot solar structures here in MA too. That’s definitely going to help offset the additional loads from EVs.

The car park structures are the best thing ever. You get shade to park your car under and they're generating electricity in a wide open area.

Even my daughters school put them up:
