I have a 2010 with almost 190k. At around 150k I had the dealer flush the tranny (I know some are against that, I didn't have any problems appear). Today I got the tranny temp up to 125F (check temp range 97°-115°F [not 115-130], ultragauge) opened the fill and train plugs and had a good stream come out, probably dumped about 1/4 quart.
Took it for a short drive and it seemed to idle better and a small shudder I had at 40 was gone, seems to downshift better.
Shudder - felt like manual that you forgot to downshift, since before the flush, at 40 mph and around 1100 rpm (min speed at top gear) I would get a little shudder/struggle when I would go from flat to a slight uphill. It would go away if I back off the gas or press harder to force a downshift.
Anyone has similar experience? Symptoms? Advice?
I want to make sure I'm not about screw something up.

    UPDATE:
I can confirm that the slight overfill was causing the shudder. I was chasing a grinding noise (ended up something else) so I slightly overfilled the transmission and the shudder came back. Drained it back down to proper level and the shudder has been gone since.

I don’t think it’s crazy that the transmission might have been overfilled by the dealer, or that it might have caused some issues. If you followed the correct procedure on the fill check then, good to go.

If you are wanting a warm and fuzzy then it sounds like you did things right and corrected the dealer's mistake.
Next time do the flush yourself so it will be done correctly.

Yes, warm and fuzzy. Or someone point out a mistake that I can correct before I damage something.
I'm planning a pan drop and filter next summer at 200k.

If it’s running better and not banging or slipping when coming to a stop. You are probably just fine:thumbsup:

The FSM will tell you to wait until you have a small slow steady trickle coming from the check plug. But most transmission guys (the ones that actually work on these things) will tell you a fast trickle is better.

Basically it is better to be a bit over full than under.

Again, if your tuck is running better now. I’d say leave it alone.

I wouldn't lose any sleep.

Seeing as you just did this today, I'm genuinely curious to know if this fixed your shudder for good or if it'll (unfortunately) return here shortly. Keep us posted over the next few days and/or weeks and let us know how it's doing.

    I added a bolt once...
<-- not an expert but it sounds like the dealer added to full while cold. You warmed it up, fluid expanded, and the extra came out.
    Drive on...

most if not all automatic transmissions are supposed to be filled cold.
If it drove in for a quick service it was hot, which can result in incorrect level

if that is the case a tech will typically put bottles in the freezer and a fan on top of the engine until it reaches the temperature range specified in the repair manual and scan tool

Hotter means more fluid comes out.

    97-114 is the correct. 35-45c.

    You are now underfilled.

Where do people get this misinformation?

Interesting, it seems they changed it somewhere between 08 and 2010 not sure why.

I always just jumper the pins on the OBD connector and use the AT TEMP light on the dash.

The tacoma is one of the first sealed units, but I have always seen 35-45 on every model, even now, I wonder if any pre-2010 other models share differing temps. I'll check im bored.

They amended it, I cannot share the tech tip, but it shows they intended check temps to be lower.

The tip was released in 2008 if someone can find one that is public.

    Found it, TSB #0129-08.

Thanks for the heads up, everyone has been going off the procedure in the 06 FSM since it's the one that's most common to find in the wild. I never noticed that it was different on newer model years.

Well, does that mean the early trucks Temp light comes on too “hot” too?
    Or was it a “typo”?

Either way, that temp check circus act is ridiculous.
Why the hell they thought we didn’t need a dipstick is beyond’s me?
