Alright old timers and purists.. take a deep breath.

Anyone have experience with this JAKT gear bow sling? I just ordered one for this trip to Montana to see what it’s all about. Because I have glasses, it’s cumbersome to have a bow in one hand and use my binos/range finder because I also have to lift my glasses to be able to clearly see through them. Hoping this will prevent me from having to set my bow down. Also, last year on the pack out I strapped my bow and wouldn’t you know it, I had a big 5x5 run right out in front of me. While I probably wouldn’t have been able to make a successful shot anyway.. I am still kicking myself.

    aaaaaand let’s hear it

First, let me ask this. Any possibility of contacts? Lil late for this season. I switched 11 years ago ( I as 49) and never looked back.

For me, I don't like anything on my bow that's not specifically for the shot or could get in the way, like a sling or similar. How about something like this?

I’ve got one of those I used last year. Found it snagged more shit than it solved my problem but in all fairness I only used it that one 10 day hunt so it’s not entirely fair as I never gave it time to get used to it.

contacts I’ve tried three times in my life at various points. I get them on my eyes, but as soon as I blink they pop out. Every optometrist I’ve seen has made me a referral to a specialist and I’ve declined the offer. Maybe it’s time to try again. Last time I did I was in my late 20s (I’m just shy of 36 now)

Have you tried leaving the glasses for binos and rangefinder use? I have vortex binos and a dig rangefinder and use them both with my glasses on. You can’t see as well as without but it isn’t enough of a difference for me to ever lift my glasses up unless I need a really good look at something.

could go so far as to try and find a cheap pair of glasses to hunt in that keep closer to your eye for a better view.

Yea I’ve tried but it leaves me with a tiny field of view. I can get away with the rangefinder if I’m not actually ranging an animal. Since I usually try to get set up and laser a few trees to get points of reference, that works fine with glasses on

Haven’t thought of lenses that sit closer to the eye.

Not a pic of me, but I'm kinda a First Lite guy. Their merino base layers is the tits. Soft, temperature controlling to a degree, doesn't get stinky after three or four days. Ya, for base layers First Lite all the way. Mid and outer layers, I have some Kuiu and Core4Element. Core4 was an offshoot (IIRC) from Sitka. I've used that since 2011? and it's still going strong. No signs of wearing out.

I assume you have tried folding the rubber lens surround back on both the binos and rangefinder, right?? I wear tri-focals and this works for me. Worth a shot if you haven't tried it.

Dave, not sure about the rangefinder, but when I did wear glasses I would roll the eyecups down on my Nikon's. Worked great. My breaking point with glasses was in 2011, early November, running late ( like usual) got to my spot, stripped down, wipped off, geared up, climbed, strapped release on, ready to go. Except where the hell are my glasses. Took them off when I changed. Climbed back down, can't find them. Climb back up, lower my bow because, screw this I can't see. Pick my bow up and there are my glasses, ear stems half folded around my arrows.:frusty:

I actually had contacts at the time, just couldn't get used to putting them in/out. Learned real fast after that charlie foxtrot of a morning.

Haha! I will give that a shot as well!

And maybe its time to get back to the eye doc and actually take the referral to a specialist

Yes I forgot if they have an adjustable eye relief that makes all the difference. Make it so that the lens of the bino is as close to your glasses as possible. I didn't do it forever then when I tried it made all the difference. I feel like I can see better out of the binos than the rangefinder because the binos are adjustable.

Happens to the best of us. Two years ago I was tired and not paying attention and tapped my release as I was drawing. Lobbed and arrow into the woods behind my house and also punched myself in the nose :anonymous:

Maybe its me but seems like if i havent shot in a while my bow is all over the place. Then i shoot a dozen times and and it comes back into the good range. Like the strings are tense and relax after shooting. Could be me concentrating

Do what I do, go for a run then don’t rest and shoot a dozen. Then either you’re training your body to shoot under duress or you have a perfectly valid excuse to be all over the place :rofl::rofl:
