Normal Use - Every 4 weeks, that translates to about 1/2 tank depending on activities in that period but is usually around 1/2 tank.
Vacation or Road Trip Use - Depends on the level of civilization on my route and a little bit on the pricing along the way. I try not to run down to the low light but it has happened a couple times in the last 5 years. I want to minimize my stops so I go pretty far in general 1/8 or 1/4 tank left usually.

Not so much now but I used to see a lot of vehicles dragging a piece of braided wire. One end attached to the frame and the other just dragged along the pavement. Probably a myth but people thought it saved wear on moving parts because of electricity arching across bearings

    A few.
What about the black strips some cars would have under the rear bumper going to the ground. Protection im case the car gets struck by lightning?

You can actually buy them today. Very popular 60's (I'm old enough to remember them) and earlier. It says in the fine print they will stop built up static so you don't get a jolt in and out of the car. Do they work? Nope they are absolutely worthless!

Different strokes for different folks. I live life on the edge a little when it comes to filling up. I know my vehicles and even driving around with the needle blow E and the gas light on for for some time, I’ve still never ran out. I usually fill up around the time when the gas light comes on but sometimes you’re just not close to a station or have something else going on and can’t stop right away. Never had any issues and never burned out any fuel pumps or anything.

I was searching last night about these. They also made the claim that it helped with car sickness for people and pets. Some claimed it worked, but I agree totally worthless. I suppose some tanker trucks may use them as a what can it hurt thing.

Isn't the fuel pump cooled by fuel running through the pump and not by actual liquid around it?

Fuel pump failure is such a rare thing (unless recall due to defect) that I question if running the car to E every single time would do anything to the pump. Besides even when the light comes on there's still a few gallons left in the tank.

    Work in progress...
I try to fill up over in the United States of America but sometimes I have to buy gas in California. I am really thankful that we live on the border.

"However; do not believe the Myth that low gas ”shortens pump life”. It is Designed to run continuously and dry. It is illegal to design something that will overheat or “burn up” inside a gas tank full of fumes! Bad engineering practice, too. Plus I have Firsthand Experience with a fella that constantly ran almost dead empty. Pump got a little weak after 200K miles, but never ”overheated”. What Does happen is the rheostat to sender and connections to pump and regulator oxidize if constantly exposed to air and not 1/4 tank. A new sender comes with a new pump and regulator; not separately."

I'm circling back to this thread.

A couple days ago my wife had a medical emergency on her way home from work. She was able to make it home but we had to immediately turn around and take her to the hospital. As I'm scrambling to collect my things, even in distress, she sheepishly admits that she has parked her truck behind mine and that hers has no gas. So here I am looking for keys for both trucks so I can pull hers out and take mine to the hospital.

Now she's doing well and both trucks are full of gas.

You never know why or when you may need a full tank but you'll be thankful it's there.

^^^That makes my complaint seem trivial!

My wife left me on fumes, and I need to fill up the gas cans for the lawn mower (also almost empty). I didn’t realize BJ’s shuts off their gas pumps once you hit $100. I was able to fill the truck and maybe get one gallon of mower gas before tapping out.
