Okay I’ve been creepin in here for years without posting, so here it goes. I have a 15 SR5 Dblcb 4X4 with 76K and live over in Lawrence. Over the last few months I’ve been having a knock noise when turning at low speeds in and out of my driveway and in parking lots etc.. I just got new tires, upgraded to Bilstein5100’s, alignment etc… and thought that would fix it but NO… So then I replaced sway bar bushings, as well as the radiator support bushings that were shot. Still no fix and getting worse. Finally just went to the stealership as I have a warranty… they did a diagnostic for 2 days! (11 hrs and 3 techs). They said they looked at everything and can reproduce the noise but cannot find the source!!. I desperately need the best Tacoma mechanic in Kansas City cost is no worry at this point! Any help much appreciated.

Has anyone checked your CV joints? Is it a single knock or a clicking?

They did.. one tech thought it was an axle and the other two techs said absolutely not, which was good because they said they were going to replace it with a offbrand axle because the Toyota part was not available. I was thinking steering rack but they said my boots were a little wet but there was no play. The only thing I can do myself would be body mount bushings I have them from energy here in the box but I’ve been putting it off. I might as well change them you never know that could be the issue‍♂️ but I don’t think so! they said upper lower ball joints were good they said wheel bearings were fine, I also told him to check the engine and transmission mounts which they said we’re good to go all of the upper and lower control arm bolts as well as camber bolts were all checked I’m literally ready to tear my hair out they told me they could not look at it anymore unless they charge me a bunch more $ When my son rides in the truck he says he can feel the knocking noise in his feet on the passenger side floor board.

Single knock in and out of driveway with turn steering, brake or no brake the same noise. Driving straight over bumps etc. no noise slow turns change in elevation is causing the knock.

Do you off-road? If you get a bunch of mud/rocks caked inside your front cab mount it will make a knock when the cab/frame flex and the empty air it usually moves through is not empty.

Check the lower cam bolts for the lower control arms. Mine will make a popping noise when they start working loose. The lower cam bolts should be torqued to 100 ft*lbs for 4x4.

No 4 wheelin besides some Kansas farm snow and a couple easy trail trips to CO. Yeah every single nut and bolt underneath the front and was checked according to these three techs they spent 11 hours on it doing every single test known to man when I got it on there is Greece in every possible spot underneath the hood of my truck in between every type of amount you can find. I spent 15 minutes cleaning with you and grease off of my truck! So I’ve had two different alignments in the last 30 days with all torques checked by both shops… I told my wife you know I may have to end up just going to Colorado and spending $10,000 and turning this into some bad ass four wheeler she said OK if that’s what it comes to. LOL!

If you want to meet up, I'll drive it around the block with you and see if it's something I've felt before in my '15. I drove a guys '13 a while back who swore his hubs were brand new and I diagnosed it with a bad hub bearing and lo and behold when he finally took it apart it was a hub bearing.

honestly my import direct axles are stronger than oem imo. But like Slashaar I too am local just pm me and we can take it for a spin. I would look at the cv's, hub assemblies and tie rods first.

Quick check you can do is jack up the front an see if you have any top to bottom play when you push/pull those areas. That will indicate a bad hub. If you do a front to back motion and get play this would indicate tie rods/steering rack needs attention.
shake your CV's while its in the air and see how much they move. they should wiggle a little bit but if its like the lady on the corner's hoohaa its time to upgrade my friend.

Fun fact about Toyota hubs If you get the top and bottom play you're beyond needing to replace them. If they start making noise first but still don't have play they need to be replaced anyway. Freaking overbuilt tanks though.
