Hey guys I am not that good at searching. Is there a switched 12 volt connection under the hood that I can connect to?

Must be something you could tap in the fuse box under the hood. I used an add a circuit and ran a wire from the interior fuse box.

There are many switched circuits under the hood. You have to be carful that you dont tap into any sensor or signal circuits as that could have ill effects on how your truck runs. I would grab a test light and check for switched power in the under hood fuse box. Then use an add a circuit.

I am hooking up LED under the headlights XSP, and also am hooking up a light bar in the lower grill. all to be operated by remote. I just need something that is switched so the lights can not be activated while the truck is not running. Looks like me and the power probe will be doing some searching this weekend.

Are you using a relay to provide power to the lights?

yes, the remote switch has a constant power to it and I wanted to use the switched wire to activate the system.

If you're wanting to be able run everything with the truck off why not just run off the battery? Just fuse the power wire to the switch and wire up everything on the outbound side of the switch as normal? Saves you a bit of trouble from having to tap into into anything and any possible issues.

Gotcha. Should be a legend printed on the underside of the fuse box cover. I'd look for you but Toyota has my truck for frame replacement still. You might get lucky and find an unused switched source in the fuse box.

Not sure about 2nd gen trucks, but my 1st-gen has a 'Power Outlet' fuse under the hood, that is hot with the ignition key in the ACC position (and of course IGN as well).

I do not want to have power going to the light system with the truck not running. I will let everyone know what I find. I have not felt well enough to get under the hood and look.

My truck has a 'Power Outlet' fuse under the hood. That should be hot with the key in ACC and IGN position.

I just confirmed this on my '99 truck, using a multi-meter. The 'power outlet' fuse is not hot until the ignition key is in the ACC position. Not sure about the other years. I did check the manual for 2003, and it appears to be always hot. OP has not mentioned the year of his truck.

However, it still may not be what the OP wants, since he only wants power to the lights when the motor 'is running'. I don't know how to do that, without splicing into the fuel pump circuit, which should NOT be tampered with.

No room to place all your vehicles on that banner, so it's a guessing game.:rimshot:
