I have read about removing an overload spring from the older Dakar packs on 2nd gens but cannot find any discusson of doing it on 3rd gen or the newer packs. Does anyone have experiance? I have a lightly used set of mediums that i'd like to match with 6112s set at 1.5", so shaving off the height of one overload spring would be about perfect. Carrying no extra weight. Thanks for any input

Thought they were the same between 2nd gen and third.

i pulled the middle leaf to make my hds mediums. Put it back in when i needed the extra capacity.

yep, but there is material from OME discussing removing springs from the older leaf packs for 2nd gen and nothing about it in the newer packs that i have found. would love to be proven wrong. i think he older stuff was before they did med and HD packs

Thanks for the input and pics on the HD packs. I am starting with mediums and removing one of those lower overload springs to go to a shorter medium-light setup. I know i will loose some carrying capacity, but i have finished the flatwork at my house and hope to never do it again in my life. If i can't buy it bagged at home depo I'm hiring someone else to deal with it.

the type of wheeling i will do will be higher speed beach and soft sand runs with a light load of fishing gear for fishing the padre island national seashore. No intent on adding a rack, tent, awning, fuel canister, compressor, toaster-oven setup to drive with me daily to work.

I have the heavys and removed 2 leafs for ride height and comfort.

    Bad. Axle wrap. Like. Crazy.

Even putting the truck in drive causes the rear end to move around. Shopping for a new pack soon.
