https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvkEY6FZ6Gs Tacomaholic has posted excellent videos on upgrades: first link is for the Subaru branded Kicker tweeters upgrade, followed by the 6X9 door speakers upgrade, both no-splice upgrades. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHJ95TTmFk8
My plan is to install HushMat insulation soundproofing material in the doors first, then Kickers speakers in the doors and a new double DIN CD/Bluetooth radio. There's always a future project.

I like those! Can you print the tweeter adapters in other Toyota colors? Price?
Like the OP, I have the non-JBL system in the 2009 ACLB so... I've been looking and have seen the Kicker tweeters in TW from $88 and at Subaru dealer sites $95-115. Best Buy had the Kicker 6x9-3 way speaker kit on sale for $103.95 recently, regular $129.95. Aspen Sound also carries Kenwood and Harman Kardon speakers
    Thank you for posting.

Please…if you buy a 2 or 3-way speaker, do NOT buy the Kicker “upgrade” tweeters too. Other than being a waste of money that can be put towards a decent component set, you would have 4 tweeters up front, for a face-peeling, “screaming” good time.

I put in Alpine Tweeters from Critchfield, and Alpine drivers. They sent adaptors. Plug and play.

When I replaced my speakers with a Polk component set, I just recycled the old bracket by punching out the old tweeter. The new one fit right in.

I did the subaru tweeter and the passenger side was super easy. The drivers side has zero sound now in either my tweeter or the 6x9 in the door. I even switched tweeters to make sure the speaker was good. I followed the video exactly. Now I'm at a loss of what to do.

Just my thoughts (which are usually incomplete) but I would try to mount the tweeters on the a-pillar (windshield pillar). I can’t picture having tweeters blast right in my ears by the b-pillar, plus up front will set up more of a sound stage. Just a thought
