I was installing some tie rod sleeves yesterday and noticed that my outer tie rods are unevenly threaded. The driver side threads on 18 rotations while the passenger side threads on 15 rotations. The driver side has almost no threads left to toe in any more therefore my alignment is slightly off.

I am planning to thread my outer tie rods on evenly(say 16.5 rotations or so to start with) so i have plenty of room to correct my toe in the future. The problem with this is that my steering wheel would be off maybe 45 degrees or so. Does anyone have experience unbolting the steering shaft above the gas pedal and centering the steering wheel like in this video?

It doesn’t make sense to me how I could have thrown my steering off so bad. Ive done a few hard trails recently and just got back from moab but no super hard bottom outs or impacts.

I thought the tie rods are designed to be a sacrificial part so you don’t wipe out the steering rack on ifs vehicles?

Did you do the alignment or did a shop do it?

I bought the tie rod sleeves on here as part of a group buy an you're not the first person who has run into this, a few people here in the group buy thread did as well. Luckily I installed mine with no issues, I actually have a decent amount of clearance left over on both sides but I saw war fab said something in the thread about some trucks may not have the steering truly squared possibly from maxing out caster on the LCA's for tire clearance.

Some guys in the thread apparently trimmed down the sleeves so they would fit an not have to deal with making adjustments elsewhere.

Also I see no issues with adjusting the steering wheel like that to be straight, haven't done it on my Tacoma but have on other trucks I've owned.

Hey, found this post looking for something else, but you wrote it not too long ago.

So I also installed war fab sleeves. On drivers side I had 13 turns and passengers 16. I wouldn’t stress about it too much. Threads are 1.5mm pitch… 4.5mm is nothing in the big picture.

If I recall correctly I’m on the 3rd alignment. 1st lift, 2nd impact while wheeling, and 3rd relifted truck with welded cam tab gussets.

Just giving you some feedback that it’s not so unusual.

Problem “solved”. Took the tie rods off then threaded them in equally. Took about 16.5 turns to get perfect tow. My wheel was very crooked at this point so I disconnected the steering shaft and turned the wheel a few notches and tightened it back up
