I need to replace my shocks and coils for my 2001 4wd double cab with off road package. I can buy OEM from Toyota for about 750 for front shocks, front coils, and rear shocks. If I wasn't going to go OEM, what would be a comparable shock/coil in quality? Is there a difference in size for off road package vs non off-road package? I was looking at moog shocks and they all say non off road package. I've heard people mention Bilstien, but I'm not sure which series I should go with. I'm trying to get as smooth a ride as possible, I don't plan on doing off road stuff often, just trail driving every once in a while for camping. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

If you want a smooth a ride as possible, use genuine Toyota parts. That's what I did, and that's what I installed. And the price was just about $750 for everything (I bought the springs from Toyota, the shocks (4600 series) from other places.

Oh, and tires make a big, BIG difference. I bought Michelin LTX A/T2 tires and was very satisfied with the ride quality around town, on the interstates, and off-road. No complaints, no problems, and quiet. Unfortunately it's time to replace the tires but Michelin no longer make them.

So it looks like you got OEM coils, but are the shocks are OEM shocks or Bilstein 4600?

The shocks are Bilstein 4600 and I got them from shockwarehouse.com.

Minus a few very small details, the original TRD shocks are equal to the 4600s.

So Bilstein 4600's will provide as smooth a ride, or a smoother ride? Will they last as long? Those are pretty much the 2 things I care about most. Thanks.

Also it looks like I can get rear OEM shocks for $50 a piece. Would it be bad to mix OEM shocks in the rear and then put Bilstein 4600's up front (those are half the price of OEM front shocks)

Bilstein was (one of) the original suppliers for the TRD shocks. Aside from a slight difference in the width of the shock body (which favors the 4600), the 4600s are what came on the truck from the factory.
