It is not anything like having the overload leaf aside from the leaf pack stack height being maintained. The overload leaf is there to support the leafs above it when they are loaded to the max. Without the overload there will be a much higher bending force on the leafs right at the edge of the shim if they are loaded to the max. I couldn't guess what kind of weight would present this problem, but with stock leafs it's probably not anything crazy.

Any change in suspension geometry is going to throw it out of alignment. My steering wheel was cocked to the left after i installed mine

It’s not a problem at all because Icon literally tells you to throw out the overload leaf when installing their AAL. If you’re flexing out your truck so much that it’s bending your leaf springs permanently you got bigger problems to worry about. The AAL is also adding more curvature and support in the pack. You are correct to an extent, but most people won’t come close to exceeding that weight. And if they are, you’d be better buying a whole new leaf pack instead

    Just starting.
I won't be putting that much load, nowhere near it.

I was saying the overload and shim are the same in terms of height. Most people don’t come anywhere near the weight capacity where the overload is engaged. With the icon AAL they tell you to remove the overload anyway. But the people who keep it in are only keeping it there for extra height, because icons AAL is more around an inch of lift, not the advertised 1.5”. So to counter that, the shim is better because there’s no interference with the AAL brackets. If someone is gonna carry weight where the overload is engaging I would suggest buying a whole new pack like the icon rxt

When you do an AAL and leave the overload in, is it possible that it could make the rear super stiff especially with no load, bumpers, racks, etc? Mine was left in and I was thinking that might be why mine rides so tight in the rear.

I have icon aal and I left the overload springs in. Together its just enough to sit level and it drives great no issues. I have Teraflex Falcon shocks with adjusters and its great! Up front I used Eibach coils with the shocks set at level.

I kinda thought so. I am riding stock other than a lift and tires so I think mine may be set up for a heavier load.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. I noticed that my truck has been squatting in the rear since I installed the icon AAL since it doesn’t really give the full 1.5” of lift.

Just bought the rear shims using the link in this thread. Hopefully that’ll fix the problem.
