Hi all, new here. I've had a 98' Tacoma for about 3 years now. This truck was rebuilt but has taken me anywhere without an issue besides replacing the alternator once. I'm here to ask all of you with more experience for suggestions. I'm torn between upgrading/fixing my current Tacoma which i REALLY like or replacing with a new one off the lot. The major issues I have with it are, 1. There is an oil leak somewhere that I have yet to figure out where it's coming from. 2. The ride on gravel is so rough that anything above 25MPH makes it so uncomfortable and the entire truck shakes like its twerking. 3. When I stop at a redlight I come to 0 MPH then there's a drop, I really don't know how to describe it but it just stops then as if something clicks and the truck feels as if it dropped an inch or two. With that being said I am not sure if I should fix these issues or replace it with something new. I really would like to keep it because I love this truck, my first one ever. I would like to replace it for safety features of a gen 3 or 4 whenever that comes out. If I do fix the above issues I would then upgrade it, even a new engine would be ok with me. Thanks for taking the time to read.

    Welcome to the Forum!!

This is a decision only you can make.

There comes a time when you just get tired and don`t want to spend another cent.

I have had great Luck buying those vehicles . My $500.00 2000 Tacoma is a good example .

I will only pay Cash for a newer vehicle so every time I get $10,000.00 saved up a Household emergency needs the cash.

Put your Truck up for sale at a decent price it will go fast.

I would agree with a prior post stating this is something you have to decide.
    its based on:
-do you have a place to work on the rig or afford to pay a mechanic?
-is this what you depend on to get to work ( what happens when it breaks down on the way to work)
-do you have the time, and patience to work on said rig
-for some they need a reliable rig for family reasons
-finances: do you have the money to buy parts as needed or can you swing the monthly payment and insurance

it comes down to how long can you do you hold on to a rig before giving up on it? not to throw you under the bus or carpet.... I would like to say do this or that but you have to live with this and not me
I did that with my 2005 outback with 310,000 miles- no place to work on it, I have to have a reliable rig to get to and from work, I have to help with my step daughter and step grand daughter at times.... all a decision I had to make with my wife..

My 02 has 313k and never left me strained or been on the hook. Only reason I replaced is the body is so rotted i have the 55mph ac from all floor boards. If the body is solid I would fix in body is gone then it’s time to part ways. Good luck
