Hey all, I'm new to the forum and truck suspension. I have a 21' Offroad and have been digging through the forum and can't seem to find the answer. I can get a really good deal on the OME BP51 coilovers and rear shocks. My question that I can't figure out is whether or not the coilovers, even at the lowest setting will raise the ride height? I want to keep the ride height at stock, but if I switch them out do they provide lift in their base setting?Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

From what I have found it looks like an advertised 2 inch lift and your only choices are between light/medium duty stiffness and heavy duty stiffness. Keep in mind that your lift will be closer to 3 inches when you first install it. It'll take some time for the coils and the leaf springs to settle. TACBP51H is the heavy kit and TACBP51P is the light/medium duty kit.

I have the heavy load springs but with the nitro charger shocks. I'll be interested to hear how the BP51s handle. To answer your question: yes, the coilovers and the leaf springs are what impact your ride height as they carry/suspend the static load of the vehicle.

Thank you for the quick response. I'll keep you posted if I go that route

I have a F+R BP51 set-up. Initially it was installed at the lowest setting (before I added the ARB bumper and winch). Yes, it did increase the ride height. As @mic_sierra stated, initial ride height gain is quite a lot (for me about 2.5"-3"), but it very quickly settled down to about 1.5" (because my truck was heavily loaded in the front even before the bumper/winch).

You do not want to reduce the preload on the coil-overs to reduce ride-height, because of the design of the shock. While most conventional shocks have a constant damping rate along the entire travel, a bypass shock like the BP51 has different damping zones along its travel. Deviating from the designed center location (with preload misadjustment to gain /more less ride height) will place you in a harsher damping zone and result in unsatisfactory ride.

I do however warmly recommend the BP51 set-up. It transformed my truck, being very comfortable on the road, while allowing WAY increased speeds off-road, while maintaining a very good ride, and, preventing bottoming. I typically tune the damping a few steps up and down as I increase/decrease load (e.g. full load for long camping trips, versus unladen weight around home).

Hey some great questions man. I just installed the OME bp51 on my 2020 Tacoma off road. Great suspension so far. I actually had a question for you. It states in the manual the shocks come preloaded at 20mm which gains approximately 2” in ride height. My ride height did change a bit but the images I’m seeing of other peoples installs have more threads on the top of the shocks from the factory. If you check the photo, this is the factory set threads at apparently 20mm. Didn’t seem like 20mm to me and the front end can definitely get higher in lift compared to the back. I’ll send more pictures.

Here is the ARB procedure to measure and adjust preload:
    https://arbusa.com/how-to-adjust-bp-51-preload/

The preload is measured from the top of the threads to the metal ring. Since your picture only shows 4-5 threads, it seems to me your preload is about 5mm. I read somewhere that ARB changed their procedures and are now shipping BP51's with the minimum preload from the factory, rather than 20mm (max preload). Seems to me this is your situation.

Just want to confirm for anyone who may read this in the future, my BP51's came from ARB with 5mm of preload and it looks like the above picture. The shop I had install them did not realize that ARB had made this change and installed mine without adding more preload. I had installed my winch and C4 Overland front bumper and it did NOT agree with that set up! lol.
