60+ year old thread.

That's me. Up the ladder and that's it. I have no hope of making my legs go further

 

@Sprig, ouch, I feel for you. On the flip side, my wife and I are heading for Iceland on Wednesday and during the five days we'll be there the high is forecast to be only 55°F; sounds like heaven to me.

 

I’m envious. Iceland is on my bucket list. Possibly 2023 but wifey already has booked 3 trips,

 

Well, Mr. Filter Doctor (me) has determined after inspection and vacuuming out water to the zeolite level, there wasn't enough. I know good and well what I put in should have been, but my eyes tell me more. So, 50 lbs new, back together, and now I'm supervising the fix. And the ribs on the smoker. From the pool.

 

Been to Iceland it is a beautiful country Dale. 2 musts are the Blue Lagoon (Thermal Spring and Spa) I also heard there is a thermal spring right outside of Rejkavik that is cheaper, and The hydro??? tomato farm. Best tomato soup I ever had (and homemade bread to go with it). Waterfalls galore and glaciers. Enjoy your trip and be safe.

 

My extension ladder days are over, I no longer use much more than a 6 foot step ladder.
This spring I had a handy man come to replace a vent on a 3ed story attic window, I held the ladder as he went up and did the work.
As soon as I touched the ladder I started sweating and felt my heart accelerate even though I knew I wasn't going on it.

 

Yep, I have tree trimmers coming out tomorrow and I can’t even watch without feeling anxiety

 

I have a tree trimmer who was raised by Tarzan and a family of monkeys. He comes in with his rope and his harness and he's all over the trees like a spider building a web, even swinging from one tree to another. He's got a helper on the ground that barely keeps up with him at the chipper. He prefers a manual pole saw to a powered saw, and keeps that blade sharp as a razor. No cleats either, just rubber sole boots, and an eight foot ladder, just tall enough to get him to the tree crotch.

Mimi and I are going to the Harford (PA) Fair today...opens @ 9...so we'll probably leave around 9:30 and should be there by 10.

 

We have crews that roll through the neighborhood pretty regularly. There are real crews with bucket trucks, chippers and safety gear and then there are the “Two rednecks with a pickup and a chainsaw” types who are willing to risk their lives to support their meth habits. I learned the difference when I saw two of the latter type on my roof, one guy holding the other by the belt as he hung out over the edge of the roof with a pole saw. Never again.

 

All this talk about roofs, ladders, tree trimming and gutter cleaning makes me glad out son is still living at home and does that work. I have vertigo pretty bad, i hardly go up a 6 footstep ladder anymore. We dir recently purchase him two tools:

It is what he wanted to take care of our trees and we will be using them at my SIL's cottage in Michigan this month. He works for the city in the Parks & Grounds division which frequently has him helping out the tree crew. He told me this is what they use, and he recommends both products. Who am I not to trust his judgement when he is doing the work. I have to admit the pole saw cuts through a maple lime like a warm knife through soft butter.

Today is errand day so I am out and about all morning. I am also going to cook a rotisserie chicken on the Weber Kettle this afternoon.

Good morning fellow Porchatonians! Was off on a short vacay with Lynn to play golf in northern Michigan and then make a stop in Frankenmuth for the annual music fest and dance a little polka to Mollie B and Squeezebox. Had a great time, golf was lots of fun and we got to meet Mollie at the festival.




Coming home, I thought I was fighting allergies or getting a head cold. Tested myself twice on Saturday for COVID - negative.

By Sunday I was feeling even worse, tested again.



Ugh. Called our on-call physician and got a prescription for Paxlovid. Feeling better but still sleeping a lot. Lynn has avoided it so far - just tested again this morning and she's negative.

That's a nice trip! Folks hauled me there as a kid - might appreciate it a little more now! Part of beautiful upper lower Michigan!

Just stopped at my buddies house and saw he had his hand all wrapped up, asked him what happened, and he said that he cut into it with a bandsaw! He's still living up to "Dennis the mechanical menace" that I started calling him!!!

 

I spent the entire day driving the Skyline Drive. It's supposed to be 87 miles long and we put 130ish on the truck once we got off pavement. So 87 as the crow flies, apparently. A lot was nice, maintained gravel but there were a few places that were pretty dicey. Four wheel drive to be safe... and some places where the road was very narrow and huge, steep, drop-offs. The entire road was very close to tree-line. so around 11/12K elevation.

 

Carol was 5 days negative. I stayed away and slept in another room.
Day 6 she tested.
I told her I had good news and bad news.
Bad news is you have Covid.
Good news I can sleep in our bed tonight.

This particular variant that is going around right now is highly contagious. I'm 2 weeks negative but still have symptoms, it drags on forever it seems. I'm still not 100% still weak and fatigue easy. The heat is not good for me either. But at least I'm back to riding my bike to work, they say to keep moving if you can. Me, I had an extreme case of it, took me right down and bed ridden me 11 days due to the fever, headache and body aches. That was the sickest I've been in memory, absolutely miserable. Most people it's like 3 or 4 days and they start feeling better. I'm still dealing with it.
