Had a lot of rain on a drive home from the mountains yesterday. I noticed the ledge around the inside of the topper was wet all the way around. Is water wicking up from under where the weather seal is supposed to keep this from happening or could it be something else? No water on the top or sides so I don't think it was running down from above.

Sorry. The darker part is what's wet. Looks like that all around the inside on the ledge. In other words, the edge towards the inside of the bed is wet. Not sure how else to explain it. I didn't take any other pictures and it's dry now. Just not sure how water got there unless it came under where it's supposed to be sealed.

That almost certainly looks like it's leaking under the bed rail seal and wicking into the carpet. Some people will seal the inside edge with RTV or waterproof tape.

I get a fair amount of leakage under my bead rail seal as well but I don't have a carpeted cap so I don't worry about it.

Thanks. I'll look into some sort of seal for there.

When I was considering waterproofing mine I was going to use the Gorilla brand waterproof tape. I've used that stuff on other applications and it is pretty strong.

A good way to check for leaking spots is to get someone to walk around the outside with a flashlight while you look under the topper's edge from the inside.

I would guess it’s coming from the window(s). Most of my window screws weren’t tight enough from the factory and both leaked onto that ledge. I snugged them all up (don’t over tighten tho) and no more water gets in mine.

Thanks. Good suggestion. I checked and most seemed a bit loose. Some even seem stripped. Not sure how much to tighten so just gave them a snugging up. We'll see.

Google “sealing bed on tacoma” you’ll find what you need to do.

also sometimes the windows leak on caps.
