I can do 3 pretty comfortably in the 5 ft bed with a platform. The RSI is great with the sliding windows open. Also it stays pretty cool with the RTT over the shell (I'm sure a rack on the shell would do just as well) providing a couple layers of shade. It was 100+ getting up to the Arnold area but they do fine just bring lots of extra water.

I will occasionally open the windows between the cab and the bed, not sure if it does much. That thermometer is a great idea

 

It wont be the prettiest option, nor am I sure if there would be enough air power to make it back there but you could try running something like this from one of your AC vents through the back window into the bed.
