    Yes, they are about the same. The 8th Gen HiLux kinda looks like the front quarter view of a Taco from a distance. At one time the HiLux and the Toyota Truck, or “Toyota Pickup” shared the same chassis and bed. When the T100 came out they came up with Tacoma for North America market and HiLux for the rest of the world. Wikipedia actually has a good article tracing the linage of the two trucks.

    Thanks - checked out the Wikipedia information. As suspected, looks like the same engines except for several diesel options for those outside of the U.S. Interesting 4 speed manual transmissions were available, I assume on entry level, basic trucks.

    Yea I do sometimes wonder what the other Tacoma owner thinks! In my case, I think it was complimentary. The first time, I parked next to a particular Tacoma. A few days later it was parked behind me.

    Today at the Centre County Grange Fair, I parked and looked up and saw it, so I figured it needed a buddy. The wife asked what are you doing, I said “parking next to the Tacoma for a picture for TW” she then gave me that look lol
