Does anyone know where I can buy or how to make a locking gas door for the truck? Gas prices in my area have been going up almost 2 cents a day and I am hearing people in public talk about how someone siphoned their gas.

I picked one up from my local auto parts store for like $20 a couple of years ago. Some of them have poor seals and throw error codes, so you might have to try a couple. Totally worth it for peace of mind though.

I haven't seen a locking gas door for 2nd gens, there are locking caps but they are hit or miss on whether or not they will seal properly. Also beware in some areas thieves are drilling holes in peoples tanks instead of siphoning it out, that's much more expensive to fix than a few gallons of missing gas.

The original toyota pickup truck had locking exterior gas door if I remember correctly, but not that I have seen on the tacomas!

It is impossible to siphon gas out of the tank on newer vehicles. Not exactly sure how old, but anything within the last 10-15 years at least. They are just drilling holes in the tank and draining it from the bottom anymore. That is why they stopped making them with locking gas caps.

I remember seeing something, I believe in the “what did you do to your 2nd gen today” thread. Someone crafted their own electric locking door. Just can’t seem to find it now, and my search-fu has failed me.

Locking the fuel door may stop a passive thief looking for an easy target but a determined one will just pop it open with a screwdriver or drill a hole in the tank and cause way more damage than a tank of gas costs.:annoyed:

It's unfortunate that it's getting where a person can't leave anything unattended without it getting stolen or vadalized but for the forseeable future it looks like that's what we have to put up with:mad:
