My neighbor has a maverick and it's slightly smaller than my tacoma but it has about the same useful cargo space. Also he is getting 32mpg with the turbo.

I really miss the little trucks like how mazdas and toyotas used to be.

The Tacoma is 12” or 26” longer than a Maverick. That’s a pretty big difference.

This has not been my experience, and I’m not going to keep giving them my time. Gave them 3 different chances across 5 or 6 phone calls al together over an hour on the phone for them to tell me, sorry for your bad luck we will not help in ANY way.

Update 8/18/2022: Day 56 of busted ass motor / broke truck…
Called the shop to see how the mystery motor install was going and ask them to put new spark plugs in ol’ mysterio…

my contact told my “I got some bad news for you.. we put the motor in but it looks like the timing cover was cracked and it was really hard to see during inspection”

I asked what’s next and he said well we wanted to replace the timing cover because it’s quicker but the extended warranty company (MPP) said they have warranty on mystery motor #1 so their mystery motor supplier is gonna send another one…

long story short mystery motor #2 in route and it’ll probably be another few days for it to arrive, then a few more to work inspection in, then install and if all goes well I’ll get my truck back before I die.. holy shit this is annoying!

lol, wonder if the shipping company "bumped" the timing cover or something. I've seen them crash items with fork trucks.

What a fricken nightmare. Maybe mystery motor 2 will turn out to be a piece of shit too and they’ll just give up and buy a new motor.

At this point I just want my truck back.

    - For MPP- I told you so…., if my trucks not repaired correctly I will push further down the legal path. You’re just making this harder for me, and causing me more bullshit by screwing around based on cost for service that was the commitment based on the purchase of the warranty.
    - For Toyota motor company: y’all’s incompetence in design, engineering and or manufacturing is unforgivable. I will troll you and talk shit about your products as long as I live. Whatever motor ends up working long enough to pull it out of the shop will be questionable because of your incompetence. Really hurts my heart that y’all have proven to be so shitty.. I had Toyota on a pedestal, and was an idiot for that.

Within a three month window my 2019 tacoma shat its motor and my wife's 2018 4runner sprang a timing cover leak. The Tacoma was covered under warranty, the 4runner was 3K out of warranty and Toyota would not budge. Dealer quoted us $2600 for the repair. Decided to do it myself. We then offloaded both vehicles.

I've been very careful to not spew too much venom about it, but I do feel your pain...and disappointment.

Why careful? If they suck they suck? A good company would take the feedback, address the issue and make it a better company.

Ah gotcha. I’m not worried about that. Forums are for the good and the bad I post both. If people don’t want to hear the bad and wanna get but hurt they can scroll on past, or argue with me about dumb shit, but I’m a asshole and it sounds like you aren’t so congrats on that haha. To each their own and all the best bud.

Toyota has in the past made extremely reliable vehicles which stood the test of time very well. It seems modern day toyotas arent going to live up to that reputation, which is pretty sad to me.

Does anyone know if you can sleeve these motors? By boring out the old cylinders and dropping in new a one for all three cylinders, and then milling to the correct height? Don't know if these cylinders are cast as one with the block, or pressed and milled to the block.

Yeah someone on one of the screwed up motor threads mentioned they’re sleeves and a different type of aluminum if I remember correctly.
