I have an interesting problem that has started. When someone is in the passenger seat the airbag "off" light is blank until they attach the belt then the "off" light comes on. This is a new development. Although my airbag system is modified it worked until a few weeks ago. I have modified the airbag system to accomodate the Mini Cooper bucket seats that are installed. The original weight sensors have been set so they always think there is weight. I am using the stock seat belt receiver and it is plugged in. It used to work right and has just changed. I'm looking for ideas on what to look for.

Gotta pull SRS codes with a capable scanner and see what it's unhappy about

I know you probably don't care, but modifying safety equipment is never a good idea and opens yourself up to a lawsuit if someone gets hurt that is a passenger in your truck.

    Just for your information.

I will get a good scan. Thanks.

What do you mean I don't care? I am less concerned about the lawsuit and more concerned about the safety of my passengers. That's exactly why I am working on getting the airbag system working correctly. Let's face it the seats that came with my Tacoma are uncomfortable. In order to change the seats something has to be done about the airbag system. I did a lot of study and had it working right for awhile but it stopped a week ago. Since it used to work, I'll figure it out and have it working again. That's why I went to you guys for ideas.

I went shopping and ordered a code reader that includes SRS. It should be here Tuesday. That should give me some good clues on what's going on. The one I have had is a cheapie that doesn't go beyond engine data. It's time for an upgrade.

Got it figured out!! The code reader said the SRS thought it was a child in the passenger seat. I made a few adjustments to the sensors and now I have an adult in the passenger seat. Thanks for the help.

BTW here are the sensors. I have put pressure on to make them "think" there is always an adult passenger.

Ugh. I’m glad you got it working. Just remember it’s now modified. You’re on the hook should they malfunction in anyway and even if they work properly you still may be because of the modification.
