I trying pulling my 2010 tacomas needle bearing to hotheads to ecgs’s and I pulled it wrong. It felt good and aligned but apparently not. The whole “needle cage” came out with the needles but not the metal sleeve and i now can’t get a good hold on the bearingpuller. How do I take this bearing sleeve out now?

Use the ECGS puller and position it correctly behind the sleeve it pulls right out.
Hope you got all the needle rollers out. Got a new axle seal I hope.

So I had it evenly placed behind the bearing. The puller pulled through both sides of the bearings not leaving enough for it to grab onto again. I do have a seal and yea I hope i find them all too. I have about half now and I know there are a lot hiding just behind the seal but In front of the bearing

If you dropped any needles into the diff you're going to be having a very bad day.

You may have to pull the diff and split the clamshell.

As for the bearing outer race, you might have to take some bar stock or a washer and shape it up with a grinder to be just a hair or two longer than the ECGS puller and use the puller head itself as a backer for your slightly oversized tool.

Other option is what I did for my 1st gen when I encountered the same thing:

I used shoved a grease covered rag down the bore, used a tungsten carbide burr ball on my dremel and carefully scored a line almost all the way through the race then used a punch to fold it in on itself until it was mangled enough to grab with needle vice grips and twist it up some more and pull it out, it came out in a few pieces.

I did have my diff out when doing this but not split.

    Good luck.

Alright I’ll give the first a shot and if that doesn’t work I’ll do the second option.

    thank you

3rd gen, but i had to grind the diff side shoulders of mine to get it to fit perpendicular to the tube for a clean pull.

    That thing is pretty mangled.
A lot of the times a piece can/will break off when you tap the tool into place to get it behind the bearing.
You also need to come straight out with it, the tool needs to be centered with the center of the needle bearing.

First maybe try an expanding blind hole bearing puller.
If that doesn’t work, you might “CAREFULLY” use a chisel and try to split outer race.

I just don’t see any way your getting a good grip on the race. The rear lip is busted out and the the front is pushed out. You’re certainly in a predicament here:eek:

The tool isn’t a perfect fit. It has a bit of wiggle. You might get lucky and grab something. But I doubt it.
