Dealer Power-Washed Paint Off My Truck

Looking for thoughts on how to proceed. Long story...

TL/DR: Dealer power-washed the truck and took the paint off the edges of the hood and fenders. How would you touch up the paint?

Took my '16 TRD Off-Road in for the 3rd brake light leak fix. It had evidently been leaking for years. I had a musty smell, mold, and condensation on the inside. Every time I took it to the dealer for service, I asked about it. They kept saying it was the sunroof drains. Well, low and behold, Toyota issued the recall/fix and the dealer gave in.

They kept my truck for over 3 months, but at least gave me a rental. When I got it back, my wife went to pick it up. When I got home and looked it over, they had used duct tape on the top back of the cab and didn't bother cleaning the adhesive residue off the paint. Well, that was an easy fix. Took some work, but I got it off.

The bigger issue, and the one that's not easily repairable like the duct tape residue, is peeling paint. I was told they had an industrial cleaner or detailer or something come by while all the seats and carpet and such were removed so they could clean and disinfect the inside. When all was said and done, I'm guessing they took a power washer to the outside as well.

So all the paint around the edges of the hood and fenders where they meet was power-washed off. I don't really see it anywhere else on the truck and it's not terribly noticeable unless you're up close.

It just pisses me off. If I had gone to pick it up, I would have had the opportunity to call them out for it. But since my wife went to get it and didn't mention anything to them, I don't really think I have a leg to stand on.

How would you go about touching up the paint? It's not down to the bare metal, so I'm kinda just thinking I'll leave it be.

    Thanks!

You have to make them aware of it. Bring the vehicle into dealership and show them. See what they have to say.

Oh I forgot to say this has been months ago. I can make them aware of it, but I'm pretty sure they're going to tell me to stuff it. :)

That might make it a little tough to prove it was there fault.

Yep, which is why I was seeking advice here. :)

I don't know much about touch up paint, but the amount I'd need to touch up would suck to use one of those little bottles with the brush applicator.

Maybe there's a spray can option for Toyota Super White touch up paint? Anyone done that before?

Hrm. Is Super White prone to doing this?

I don't think it's their doing. Super white is always been a problem with paint chipping around those areas. Yours actually lasted this long.

My two cents - you didn't have to write this long if you can send a pic.

Oh yeah. Tons of threads on the paint peeling with that color.

Yes, it may have been fine when you dropped it off, but it only needed a little pressure to peel off. I've seen super white chipping issue even on 2021 tacos. You can always go back to the dealer, but they will say no and it's a known issue and deal with Toyota directly. No recall on paint chipping issue yet.

I'm not asking the dealer to do anything.

I'm asking the folks on the forum for their advice on how best to touch up the paint.

    Oh look, another mod....
I'll second what everyone else has already said. The pressure washing was just a coincidence. With Super White paint, it would have come off in the rain, or if you drove too fast, or if you breathed on the truck.

Not only that, you waited too long to even try to blame it on the dealer.

You can touch it up with a paint pen/stick. They sell 'em online for like...$30. Nice ones too, the kind with the clear in it. It'll cover up the flakes/chips nicely.

Y'all need to go back and read my OP.

It was fine before I dropped it off. The paint was gone when I got it back. Clearly it happened while it was at the dealer.

However, **I'm not asking the dealer to do anything.**

I'm just asking for advice on how best to touch up the paint.
