Do you have a sway bar? It sounds like the sway bar hitting the coil over. Check the coil for impact wear

I do have a sway bar. Truck has icon coilovers on, with about 30k mi on them. I don't see any contact, but it seems to be suspension related as the noise happens when it loads/ unloads. CV's on both sides have a real tiny amount of play, is that normal, maybe 1/8 in?

Not sure maybe a worn out bushing? I’ve been chasing down pops and clunks for a year and still not solved it. If everything still works I wouldn’t worry about it

Is it intermittent? Does it only happen in reverse?

    Sounds more CV to me

Typically happens full lock in reverse, or when hitting a low speed bump

Are you lifted and/or do you have the ECGS bushing in the front diff?

It has a 2 in lift, no ecgs bushing. Previous CV's Ive had go bad on past vehicles made a clicking noise that corresponded with wheel speed. This just clunks intermittently when in reverse or hitting low speed bumps. There is no rhythm or pattern. Also I haven't wheeled the truck much, it shouldn't need CV's at 48k miles.

Don't know about tacomas, but have seen excessive front end wear caused by heavier tires, or excessive tire pressure than what the manufacture calls for in trucks. Early rams, and older dodges were noted for it.

Tires are 42lb at 35 psi, shouldn't be much more stress than OEM.

Idk about issues tacoma's can have with the front end. I have a buddy thats owned those cummins dodges, and rams with big ass heavy mud tires. Claims the front ends are done around 60k miles. Tire dealer that does his work says its just the price you pay if you want to look cool. He won't even own a chevy.
