Got it, it's always lubricated as long as front diff fluid level is adequate. Exercising 4X4 is just make sure whatever is powering the movement of ADD (electromagnetic I assume? Or a tiny electric motor?) can move freely I think

Mostly it's to move the actuator and sliding parts to keep any build up (debris, gunk, rust, etc.) knocked off. The actuators don't generate a ton of force so if something builds up on the parts over time it will struggle to power through. Everything in the front axle spins in 2wd except the ring gear and pinion.

Bingo. You are moving the electric motors, shift forks and collars in the transfer case. All of it = Everything Is bathed in oil at all times. People don’t know what the fuck they are talking about.

Shoot I use 4 low to back the camper into the garage. If you do the math it takes a pretty tight turn to cause much binding.

If you drove one from that time frame you'd understand.

I kind of remember old jeeps getting bound up so bad on the pavement you had to jack them up to get it out of 4X4 but they never broke any thing.

Well, we can agree to disagree. You get lots of wheel spin in the rain, and just like off roading, it gives you better grip. There is no binding like on dry pavement.

As I recall from the 3rd gen twin turbo shaitshow thread there was a member (that'll remain un-named) that drove his truck in 4H for >5,000 miles... all while boosting out increased HP and TQ. Anyone else remember that?

Not that I recall and this individual seemed to beat the truck without a care (probably because he was versed enough to replace everything/anything on it.) Mixed feelings on the guy but generally it's a shame he doesn't contribute here anymore.

I twice drove my Chevy 2500, towing over 12k lbs, in 4wd on pavement for over 150 miles. Just head up A$$ until the steering felt a little stiff. No problems for the years I owned it after.

I was in stop and go traffic on the freeway and decided to put it on 4 Hi for a while. I forgot it was in 4 wheel drive and traffic cleared up and I drove at least 20 miles in 4 Hi at 80 miles an hour. When I got home I climbed under the truck thinking the transfer case was glowing hot but it didn't seem hot at all. Everything works fine and I have put at least 20,000 miles on it with no issues at all.

Highway doesn’t curve enough to cause binding. Whenever I’m in traffic I’ll drive several miles periodically switching in and out of 4wd to use the system. Have even thrown it in 4Lo a few times when I could walk faster than traffic was moving. Could just creep along and keep my foot off the clutch.

Find a golf course at night, put it in 4Lo and then exercise the drive system smartly. You'll have enough loose terra firma to allow for slippage, and the golf course will be healed eventually thereaafter

A golf course is a absolutely mortifying waste of a firing range anyway. Make this statement, Share the earth.
