Looking for opinions if my starter crapped the bed suddenly. 2020 with 46k.

Battery is reading 12.3v. All electronics work. Fuses look good. Relay is (probably?) fine. Although if there’s a better way to check that, I’ll give it a shot.

I would still try to jump start it. Toyota batteries have been known to develop bad cells after a couple of years.

I'd have to agree. The voltage of a healthy battery is typically much higher than 12V. Infact, something near 12V (maybe 12.2 or so) is indicative of some problems... it is said at 12.2V, the battery is only 50% charged. Min with car off is about 12.6. Min with car running and alternator charging is somewhere near 13.7V and may be as high as 14.7.

Clean the terminals of your battery. Jump start it if necessary and take it to an auto-supply place for a run-down and alternator test.

Likely you need a new battery.

Sounds like a battery to me as well. 12.3 is fine for charge, but it doesnt mean the battery has the oomph to push the engine over.

    Boost it to be sure.

The video won’t play for me, but in my experience the battery is the weakest link in the engine starting system. Start there.

What's the battery voltage under cranking load? 12.3v at rest doesn't tell you shit about the health of the battery.

If boosting the battery doesn’t work and it’s an automatic trans, put the parking brake on and try starting it in neutral. If it’s a manual, make sure the floor mat isn’t jammed up behind the clutch pedal.
    Good luck.

OP, if you try to jump it with cables, make sure to rev the RPMs up on the vehicle that is giving the jump. My neighbor was trying to jump start a Mustang with an idling minivan for 20 minutes. I brought my jump box over and the Mustang fired right up. I could have just revved up the minivan for him but I wanted to show him my jump box.

    What everybody else says, battery.

Look at the simple stuff first, then work towards the complicated.

Yup. My 21 Taco starter started to fail on me and got 100% replaced by Toyota under warranty. Thought it was my battery as well.

Everyone already has a battery load tester under the hood.. the engine. Put a voltmeter across the battery, disable fuel supply for a minute and crank it for a good 4-5 seconds. If the battery drops below 10 volts it's weak
