No need to resort to 3rd grade name calling. Please answer the question or you should probably consider removing your post since it appears to be an incorrect statement with no basis.

We recently sold my wifes 4R due to her increased drive time and to pay off my truck. 2015 with 125k. Mostly stock, new stereo, DD fogs, TRD pro wheels, roof rack, some badges..

Took the fog lights and roof rack off. Toyota dealer offered us 20 and change, carvana offered us 18 and change. We sold it two days later for 24.5K on the private market (FB).

Just FYI, we had a loan on this vehicle still. The buyer contacted their bank who wrote two checks. One to the bank holding the loan to pay off the vehicle and a second check with the difference to us. It was painless.

Private sale is the way to go in my opinion.

I just spent last Sunday taking all of the wife's light mods off her 4R to trade it in.
getting 40k for the trade on a new 4R, so i wouldn't say that Toyota had low trade in value.

Sorry bud, you're just going to have to live with me. My statement isn't incorrect, none of my statements have been. Toyota gives low trade in values, i have been trading vehicles to them for almost 20 years. I'll tell you what though - you show me data that proves me wrong. I'd happy to apologize publicly, I'll even send you a gift card to McD's so you can grab dinner for yourself this week. Hand on my heart.

Also, since you're a huge fan, bookmark this link, this will take you to all the posts I make so you can continue stalking me throughout TW. I can't promise you daily posts as I actually have a life but you can check it every morning! You don't have any kind of support system since you're going after someone on the internet so I'll happily be there for you boo. Let's get you out of this funk! "This isn't 1984!" I once heard a genius say, men should be able to talk about their feelings, let's break the stigma!

If you took it to CarMax, they would have probably given you $4k more for that new 4R. Carvana is going through some legal troubles at the moment and can't sustain their business model, their prices were high at the beginning of the pandemic but are on par or lower than Toyota dealers now that they are bleeding money. Vroom is low as well but generally at least $500 more than Carvana.

CarMax loves Tacoma's and 4Runners. Just this year I sold my previous Tacoma to them for $33k (bought 5 years prior for $38500 OTD), wife's brand new RAV4 Prime for $56k and change (I think we paid $45k OTD?). Carvana was way low, $28k on Tacoma and $50k on RAV4.

Or in reality, I would have gotten 2k less.
I did this with their online system using vin. I selected the best possible scenario to get the best offer.

Its just not possible to offer $44,000. that's a selling price for them.

So as I asked, but you seem to be more focused on insults instead of how is it possible that Toyota could possibly control the price on trades? Where is your proof that Toyota has any control whatsoever how an independent dealer offers for a trade? How could you possibly know the policy for 1200 dealerships? Not to mention that two of the distributors are independently owned and of course that is only for new cars. I really don't see how it is possible, but you seem to have some knowledge that we all would like to see.

I really find it fascinating that Toyota drives down the price on trades when they can't even control the price on new cars. Really looking forward to your information disclosure. I honestly had no idea that this was even possible.

Using your information, what happens when you trade a Toyota in at a Toyota Carmax dealership?

Yeah market has definitely cooled off, looks like Carmax in your area is cooling off faster. Toyota's offers may be higher than usual in select trims but only because they don't have inventory of those trims or models. In my area they are low balling everybody on everything. I would never bring a vehicle to them unless I was trading towards something. Historically Toyota is lower than most on trade-in values, current market conditions excluded. Back in 2015 I bought a brand new STi limited with Nav and all the bells and whistles, 1100 miles when I wanted to trade it for my previous Tacoma the Toyota dealer offered $28k, I sold it privately for $32500 in a day.

Keep in mind how many 'educated' Tacoma buyers are out there - not many. We on this forum are the minority when it comes to knowing these trucks inside and out. Most Tacoma buyers need a truck with QRD and great resale.

That said, I just bought my '21 PRO in Super White with 20k on the odo for $52k CPO. Its crazy to think where we are with used car prices, particularly in the Toyota truck/SUV PRO world.

Never at any point did I proclaim that Toyota Corporate decides trade offers from independent dealers. Historically, as a whole Toyota dealers give low trade in values. Corporate has nothing to do with it. Insults? Nonsense! I am legitimately worried that you need help and since we are getting so close I want to be there for you. I don't want to think of you as my stalker, I want to think of you as a friend! You around Michigan? Let's have a beer! Talk about whatever is bothering you that's making you go after strangers on the internet and argue about trivial information!

    1. if the market cools in an area, it cools across the board relatively. carmax, Toyota etc.
    2. you cant compare a private sale to a trade in.
    3. maybe your dealerships just suck. Maybe that's just your area. what all this boils down to is YOUR experience in YOUR area.

Yeah sorry boss, that's wrong

Market is still red hot in California and on the western side of the USA. Good luck finding an OR or Pro in the trim you want brand new. It's cooled off quite a bit in the Midwest, I just bought a fully loaded OR for $2750 off MSRP. It looks like it's cooling off in Texas a bit. Market is different throughout the entire country, OP is welcome to take my advice or not, do his own research. If CarMax is lower than Toyota, no skin off his back right? He can just take it to Toyota.

When did I compare a private sale to a trade in? Simply stated how low Toyota was on that evaluation and through the last three vehicles. Even prior to 2020, Toyota gave low trade in values, I've lived in 3 different states on the east coast and Midwest since 2006, every area Toyota dealer was terrible on trade in. The only reason you have any leg to stand on is due to current market conditions, maybe some Toyota dealers are offering decent pricing because they have nothing to sell and people come to them for those specific models. You did but a CPO after all, no? Am I the only one here who's actually been driving and trading in cars before the pandemic? :D

    lol...

and here you said i am wrong, but basically agree with what i said? I thought when I said AREA it made sense. and by relatively, that meant with buyers (read: dealers taking trade-ins) in that area.

so, anyways... have a great day. I don't have anything to prove arguing with you.

I never compared trade in value to private value. I gave you trade in values of each time Toyota gave me low numbers. Just like I did in the previous comment about my old Tacoma and wife's RAV4. Suddenly I mentioned that I sold my STi privately and you lose your damn mind? :der: Sheesh. Take away what I said about selling it privately, Toyota still low balled me on a brand new launch edition STi, wasn't even 6 months old at that point.

There is nothing to prove here, we are all arguing about trivial information except it's two dudes with a testosterone imbalance who won't leave me alone
