I've had all manner of people over the years tell me to drive it like you stole it on day one.
These people never kept a car more than three years and usually ended up spending most of their money 'fixing' their cars.
I tend to baby-step my brand new vehicles and oddly drive them for a minimum of 10-20 years.

Per the manual and I might add:
Don't do cruise control for first 500 miles and don't tow anything either.

I would agree with 2 exceptions.
    V-Rod seemed a non-leaker in the 15 K I owned it.
    My 114 M8 is a non-leaker.

My tundra had a bunch of fine metal fillings on the drain plug to when i did its first differential oil change at 30k miles. I did it every 30k after that. Didn't seem to affect the truck none. I drove it nearly 300k miles, and its still running fine today.

Don't think they do a good job of cleaning out the filings from the machining process and that makes the first change look really bad. Mine had pieces that were clearly drilling byproducts stuck to the magnet the first time I did mine.

    My Odo reads 688 now.

I had to drive it home from the dealership, so first 100miles was a mix of country paved road, gravel, and highway. Did make an attempt to not drive it over 80 and as a consequence of the shifting road patterns it didn't stay at the same speed for more than 30 minutes.

After that, mostly the same mix. Had a couple of occasions on the highway where I did need to speed up over 80 for a while. Still haven't towed but I did carry about 300lbs of stone in the bed after going down some mountain stone roads in 4hi.

Hope that won't ruin things in the long run.

Don't worry about towing. i went ahead and towed my trailer with a steel cement mixer, and tools, plus bags of concrete in the bed worth 1300 lbs. to a job 75 miles away. I had less than 1000 miles on the truck at the time. Truck runs better than ever.
