Will 2018 TRD Sport OEM Struts n Rear Shocks Bolt On To My 2010 TRD Sport?

Hello Tacoma Wold members. I've owned nothing but Toyota Trucks for the last 30 years, used this forum to learn and answer many questions, but I just finally joined, and as you can probably guess ... I have a question.

My current 2010 TRD sport 4x4 has apprx 115K and the suspension, especially the rear, is feeling really soft. It feels like it is bottoming out on the freeway with just 3 adults (530lbs) and nothing in the back. I found a set of OEM front struts and rear shocks from a 2018 TRD (the blue Hitachi gear, not the usual Bilsteins), The back-story is that the owner tore them off of a brand new 2018 TRD sport 4 years ago and they have been sitting on a shelf in the garage ever since. Money is tight right now, he's asking $200. From the photo, they do look brand new.

Will these 2018 struts and shocks bolt onto my 2010?

I did find another thread that suggests that they will fit, I sure would like to get confirmation before I go shell out the $200. Any help or links to other resources would be greatly appreciated.

I think you will even gain an inch of suspension lift as well. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

 

I did see something about that in one of the other threads. The lift is nice, but I need better suspension on the cheap, and these are available on the cheap. Thanks for the comment.

Here are a few related questions for anyone in the know with the time to respond.

Did Toyota use the Hitachi for OEM parts on the TRD 4x2 trucks only? Are they inferior, compared to the Bilsteins? I'm in the 4x4 TRD sport, will I regret the Hitachi replacements?

 

Not with those you wont gain anything, only with the Off Road ones...which those are not. and yes they will absolutely fit with zero issues. hitachi was for sports, Off Road uses the yellow and blue ones(Bilsteins) and those you would have gained an inch in the front. HOWEVER...you say your rear is saggy and droops...shocks alone will NOT fix this. tacoma rear springs are notoriously weak and flatten out pretty quick. to stop the rear from "bottoming out" as you say, you need new springs and new shocks! Look for a set of 3rd gen take offs as they will also fit without an issue!

 

So far we're running into less issues with the hitachi sports than we did with the old 2nd bilstien sports.

200$ is a great deal, I'd go for it!

 

I will say that the blue sport shocks will ride like crap. If you want a better ride I would look for the TRD off road take offs which are the Bilstein shocks or some of the Eibach Pro black shocks.

 

Yes you will get 1” lift in the front. 3 gen springs are taller.

 

I had great experience with them city and highway driving. For off-road, they are pretty stiff.

Did you drive a 3rd gen sport?

 

Had them on my 4x4 sport, excellent suspension for city/highway driving. Really gotta slow down when off-road.

 

I’ve had the same front shocks and springs on my 2013 for a year. They bolt right up and give about an inch of lift in the front. For $200, I’d say do it! That’s cheap

 

These will ride firmer. They are designed for lease body sway. You will notice a pretty big difference.

 

Yep 1/2" taller. They are also significantly higher spring rate. 700lb vs the 540lbs that 2nd gen TRD coils are. Which does result in about 1" of lift but also a much firmer ride.

 

You might consider the Roadmaster Active Rear Suspension for your trucks' weak rear leaf springs. They will help get the arch back in them and possibly improve your ride quality when used with new dampeners. They can provide 1"-2" lift as well if you pre-load them. They seem expensive, but I got a brand new set for my Tundra for about $100 on eBay.

 

I test drove one and didn't like it. The TRD OR shocks gave a better ride for me even in city/highway compared to the sport shocks.

 

Fair enough. I drove an off-road and stock bilsteins were too soft for my liking.
