Roof rack holes are all filled with silicone, any recommendations on removing it?

    like the title states, all of my roof rack holes are filled with silicone to prevent leaking from when i removed my last rack. I decided i want to put another rack on my truck. Does anyone have any strategies to removing the silicone from the bolt holes so i can throw a rack back onto the roof?

    I'd loosen/pick out what I could with a small pick then run a tap or rethreader thru to clear the remainder.

    Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
    ^^ This. You might consider using a drill bit small enough to clear the threads first. Best if you use a bottoming tap to clean the threads.

    Get the first few threads clear and then run the bolt in.

    Just run the bolt through slowly. When it binds up back it out and clean it out then retry

    No money, all went to truck...
    all good solutions. I have a ice pick that has a small hook at the end. I'd imagine I'd use that. Small drill bit is good too.

    I don't trust only tape. I know it's stupid but I don't. I used butyl sealant and then for good measure I put a layer of butyl tape over the holes before putting in bolts.
