I posted a few times about the drought down here in South Texaa. Biggest rain storm we have had all year this evening! I'm hoping the tanks collected some water. This will put a bit over 9.5in total for the year, normally average 29in a year. We needed this rain bad, I'm getting tired of delivery water to some of my trees.

I would love a zero turn mower but the cost is to high for only one or two years of use. Seems like new ones start out at $3000, when I see a rare used one for sale its usually around $2000.

I'm itching to pull the trigger on this instead of upgrading my truck to have A/C, having to tow around the zero turn to the 4 yards is annoying without A/C and for $1200 I can mow almost as fast as the 42" zt. Well maybe not almost as fast but...

 

The reason I bought my JD D140 was because of the blower and able to tow
my trailer and run self powered accessories.

A Zero Turn Is a big expense and you really gotta weigh the parameters.
4 acres is kinda big for a lawn tractor.
Of course you can side tow a couple of push mowers to increase your width..

I got 2 that I just spent 3 months going thru top to bottom.

I just like taking them apart and fixing them to close as new as possible.

I like the commercial units.

Once all the wearable parts are switched, they no different than the $12k units that were made this year.

At the end of your day if you're mowing 2 acres once a week with an old craftsman lawn tractor with a 42" deck and it gets you through 2 years without much fuss, that's great. Just start putting $125 in a jar every time you mow and when you get annoyed with mowing slowly or your mower breaks you'll have a nice chunk of money ready and waiting for you to buy a nice zero turn!

This is a nifty idea. It's a little too expensive for my blood right now, but maybe later. One of the reasons I hate switching between my finishing mower and brushhog implements is the difficulty I have getting the PTO shaft reinstalled. The PTO shaft of my finishing mower is particularly difficult to turn by hand while holding the locking ring and getting lined up with the tractor's spines. I think it would be significantly easier if both hands were able to turn the shaft without having to hold the locking ring as well.

The Exmark just sold. Told the buyer I could only move so much. I showed him the list of parts and work that was put into the unit.

He agreed, that just about all wearable parts were replaced.

I'll be honest, I will not miss that prick! Pulling the engine 3x is horse shit!

The hunt is one of my favorite parts...the $ is nice too.

Scag -GO FOR IT. I have one and it is great --some say small -but ideal machine for me. These sometimes pop up as some realize thet are too small for their needs - Scag puts the same higher quality parts in their residential that they use in their commercial grade mowers

B&S Vanguard engines; would the exhaust manifolds for a 18HP mount up to a 25HP?

 

I've not had a Vanguard unit yet. I can't answer the question.

 

We ended with 6.5in of rain so far this week, some really heavy down pours yesterday morning.

Fixing my road in a few areas, but not complaining about that rain, we need more.

 

Ok, well that took most of the day, moved a bit over 20tons of caliche off a pile I had, I think I'm gonna order a couple more truck loads.

Lots of water come off my neighbors place, hits the road and washes it out. They are not gonna chip in with materials cause they are splitting up, I'm gonna try to buy that farm as well. Anyways I ended doing more dirt work than I had originally plan too. I added a couple humps/speed bumps to slow the water down, there is every bit of 50' drop from the top of the hill to the farm to market road.

Heavy erosion from their place, they just move over a bit and start driving off to the side, cause cars/suv would bottom out.

 

Just bought a Samson stable braid 5/8” rope for guiding trees in the right direction. This arborist stuff adds up. No wonder they charge so much!

2h and 2 saws later we have brush piles. a grapple would be nice but forks worked.
