I just filled up my 1st Gen V6 with non ethanol and put a bottle of Lucas upper cylinder lube in as well. So far not noticing anything different. Gas mileage is feeling about the same. Will measure it on my next fill up. Read good things but compared to Shell regular I'm not seeing a noticeable difference in behavior or gas mileage. Truck normally averages around 19 or 20. 263k miles.

Back in the early 2000s corn alcohol was not being added to gasoline. So theoretically because this era automobiles were not designed to burn fuel of that type, it is supposed (or been shown) to negatively affect o-rings, rubber, gaskets or plastics. Also may leave a varnish type residue if not being constantly cycled/ran through.

I don’t use it in my older Trucks, its like $3 more per fillup for non eth 87 and nonprob with 21-22 mpg in both my first gens.

Also don’t use eth in any small engines, my outboard either. Never any fuel issues.

The newer Trucks 10% eth sometimes 15% because they were built with it in mind. .02

Only non ethanol station near me is selling 89 octane for just over $5 a gallon.

As far as the negative affects of ethanol, I agree. However, I drive a 1996 T100 for work every day and it's given mainly Shell regular sometimes Exxon. Truck is currently sitting at 374,950 miles. There hasn't been any issue with those things as far as I'm aware (can tell). I think ethanol is a hoax and should be outlawed, but so far I'm not getting anything different out of this tank. Maybe if I continue for a few fill ups.

Wow, that's good mileage! I think I get more like 12-14mpg, maybe...

Ethanol was added to gas in the 1940's during WW-2 in order to help with gas shortages due to rationing at the time. It worked then, and it works now. In theory pure gas MIGHT get a little better fuel mileage than gas with 10% ethanol. But not enough to offset the higher costs of 100% gasoline. They proved that 80 years ago. If you're still driving a vehicle that is 30+ years old, it might cause some damage if used long term. But if you have a 30-year-old car it is probably time to replace those parts anyway. Modern engines are designed to run on it. There are vehicles with 500,000 to 1,500,000 miles on them that used ethanol gas with no ill effects from the gas.

I have a 3RZ truck with 240k/mi. Original owner. I’ve been running no-eth for about 10 years and there was an improvement in mileage and how well the engine runs; quick starts, smooth idle. Recently did a top-end and was please at how clean everything was. Intake manifold was golden, no deposits on valves, had the injectors rebuilt and flowed and there was very little difference in before/after flow rates. No-eth 88 is about .30 more/gallon and I think well worth it.

The only station around me that offers no-ethanol charges over a dollar more per gallon. Not worth the price to experiment.

Unfortunately in ABQ it looks like 91 and higher are your only options. Great for dirtbikes but spendy with your daily driver.

Been running ethanol free 90 for quite a while now, last 3 tanks have been 26 MPG. 2.7 5 speed with 285k miles. Been paying anywhere from +.30 to .+60 more per gallon. I saw first hand what ethanol does to rubber gaskets, my fuel pump gasket at the top of the fuel tank was hard as rock causing emissions codes. If I can’t get my ethanol free I use Stabil 360 ethanol treatment. I am just OCD I suppose, but do feel better with that in my tank. Engine is more responsive and idle is smoother on the good gas.

I’ve never had any positive results with the Lucas Upper Engine and Fuel treatment.
I actually thought it made the truck run worse, but that could just be me.

And I’m a Lucas fan, but not the Upper Engine and Fuel Treatment. It gets a No from me.
