Hey everyone, just put this lift on my 3rd gen tacoma. The rear leaf springs are extremely stiff and have a lot of aggressive rebound when hitting speed bumps/offroading. Will flexing the rear help break in the leaf springs? I've been riding around with 400-500lbs of sand for the last few months to help. Saw an older post with the same setup to get longer rear shock mounts as these shocks do not fit properly with the expedition springs. Is this true? If so anyone know of a good brand to purchase? Sorry if this isn't the best post, I'm not the most experienced in this matter.

You got the expedition springs. Unless you have rear steel bumper , camper set up with OTT (over landing stuff), it will ride stiff.

Those expedition spring will ride stiff without the load they are designed for.

Bilstein 6112's 5th clip 1/4" spacer driver's side. Icon tubular UCA's with Delta joint, wheelers superbumps, ECGS bushing. Allpro standard leaf packs, 5160's, U bolt flip kit with wheelers super bump's, extended stainless steel brake lines, carrier bearing drop. Icon rebounds 17" with Nitto terra grappler G2's 285/70/17's.
I have the allpro standard leaf pack and got 2 1/2" of lift. The ride is very good. I think with the expedition's you can remove the 3rd leaf to help settle that down. Just to be sure, give wheelers a call.

AFAIK, there is no such thing as a break-in period for springs. I’ve never found a single authoritative article that concluded that a spring’s rate changes after being cycled many times.

There is however some evidence that steel will creep a little after repeated cycles. That will only change the amount of arch in a leaf spring though; not it’s stiffness.

This. Spring rate remains the same, but plastic deformation occurs so it "sags" more. That said, running around with 500lbs of sand in your bed should definitely simulate an overland setup. Still a little on the light side but should help quite a bit. I'd focus more on the shocks and not the springs. The springs usually won't create a stiffer ride, but the valving in the shocks can change everything offroad.

Gotcha so I should re valve shocks first? Also I am in the beginning stages of my overland setup. I have the rack and will be putting a steel bumper on soon as well as a tent

Once you get that weight over the bed it will help. Those expo springs are meant to be supporting a load otherwise they will ride very stiff.

I would keep the shocks the way they are if you are going to be adding more weight very soon.
