I have a 2008 tacoma V6 4X4 with 286,000 miles and over the past couple of weeks it has started vibrating, sluggish when accelerating from a stop and has backfired (at least that is what it sounds like when I am accelerating from a stop. It has happened three times over the past two weeks). I have cleaned the MAF sensor, replaced the ignition coils and spark plugs. I have been reading some of the post in the forum that discuss the OCV or VVT. The truck has not thrown any codes so I am trying to figure out what is going on. Additionally, my fuel mileage has decreased as well. Any recommendations will be helpful since the truck does not have the check engine light on and does not have any codes.

Have you done a battery reset since changing and adjusting?

I would pull the codes anyway there can be pending ones that haven't set a light yet.

I'm wondering if you have a sticking fuel injector or bad fuel pump/filter at nearly 300k miles they're probably done and they could cause the issues described without setting codes but I wouldn't throw parts at it just yet.

Update: scanned the truck again and there are not any codes.

I think I would want to check fuel pressure and if that's good then exhaust backpressure on both banks.
