I think that weekend is open, I'll have to check with the master scheduler.

There’s a fair chance that my master scheduler is going to be coming along with me on this trip!

Damn, I'm out for that weekend...that Sun. is departure for N GA. with the cycles. Sounds like a lotta fun. Tigerton is more likely now that I checked the dates against my calendar.

I think it will be just me this time. I am planning on using this as an opportunity to run the whole length of the Trans Wisconsin just because. That will require a few extra days off she or my son don't have.

All told it was 30GB between the "good" camera, GoPro, Drone, and Ida's phone.

Final edited photos are only 1.5GB so I will upload those, and I will use my Google drive for the videos and photos combined. I'll put together a supercut of the videos for Youtube at some point

I should acquire a comm device. I'd prefer hand held. Most of you are more experienced than I. What do you recommend?

I personally have a Wouxun KG-905G hand held as a backup to my truck mounted unit. It is on the upper end of the price spectrum. I think a few have some low cost GMRS hand helds from Walmart that work just fine for what we do. I also think the Midland and Radioddity get fair reviews so that's another option. I'm sure a few others will comment.

Don't forget to legally transmit on GMRS you need a license which is $35 and no test required.

Baofeng UV-9G hand held here. Does what I need at this point.

X2 on the Wouxon (pronounced "ocean"). Great unit so far.

It's made in China, so if that rubs people the wrong way, Midland would be the next option for handhelds imo.

Handheld (HT): Baofengs are cheap and good and everyone has them. I got a Radioddity GM-30 just because it has USB-C charging but otherwise it isn’t any better radio than the rest. Don’t spend a lot on an HT.

If you do decide later to do vehicle mounted I’ll echo what others said and get the Wouxon as they are the best right now. Midlands are popular but dollar for dollar you can generally do better (not to say they won’t work, just that other things exist).

And yeah get the license and stay legal. It’s cheap, no reason not to.

X2 on the Radioddity GM30. It is a nice unit as are the Baofangs. That said it has all the bells and whistles and a pretty intricate menu system. For simple use on trail rides I would go with a Motorola.

@Stoney Ranger are you going to use the radios to comunicante with a group? Or others far away? Handhelds work great with others close by, but the range is very limited if you are inside the vehicle. It’s better out of the vehicle, but if you want to reach far and hear far, you’ll want some sort of base unit with external antenna.

I just ordered that Baofeng. Thank you very much. Now to get the license. (WTF?)
