I had an axle seal leak on the driver side of my front diff. There was tons of slop in the needle bearing, so I replaced it with a bushing while I was in there. I put everything back together and still had a leak, so now I'm back in there replacing the seal again. I checked for damage to the sealing surface, and did find a tiny bit of scoring I cleaned up, but now I'm second guessing how far to drive in the oil seal. Right now I have it flush with the inner lip on the diffential opening. That's where I thought it should be, but before I out put my axle back in, can someone confirm that I've driven the seal to the right depth?

    Flush with the outside edge.
The further in you go, the more likely it is to leak.

The thing about that seal is, you should not use a flat face seal driver.
The seal has a “lip” that can get smashed if using a flat face seal driver. Which can damage the seal.
You should use a hollow piece of pipe of seal driver that is recessed.
