    Hey Guys, new here
    Looking at a 2005 Tacoma 4x4 with a V6 and 365000km

how many KM can these engines go before requiring a rebuild?

Depending on region, engine and condition.

Typically a 4.0 needs head gaskets and chains around 300-400. Which is as expensive as a yesteryear "rebuild"

With 4.0 and large failures you typically see short blocks new, rather than a bottom end rebuild.

After 400k kms we stop thinking rebuild or repair, and think replace.

Most can make it to 500-600km, but need maintenance.

The 2005-2006 models have a higher than average head gasket failures and timing cover gasket leaks. Also higher than average frame cracks in the motor mount area. It has been confirmed 2007+ models have that area reinforced.

Since you are using KM I expect a snow country vehicle.

A full on frame inspection (hammer, probe, borescope) should be done before anything else.

If good, a compression and leak down test of the engine is a good consideration at that age and mileage.

Short answer - Maybe a long time. But I’d walk away. And at a fast pace.

    Long answer

I wouldn’t look at any 2005 V6 Tacoma, and especially with that many miles.
Mostly become I HATE working on vehicles, spending money, or even worse, having to pay some one else to fix it. Which is probably what I’d have to do if the head gaskets blew on it.

Only way I’d buy it is if it were in good shape frame wise AND I got it cheap enough to throw a good used engine in it if I had to.

Depends on the price? How much out of curiosity? As others have stated 05-06 have head gasket issues so tread carefully.
