Have a 2009 Tacoma sport, trying to figure out if I should trade it off or not.

    Has 132,000 miles on it.
Paint peeling on roof and hood.
Runs good but can't decide to trade or keep.

    I would like some opinions.

Keep it. It is the simplest and easiest of the year models to fix.

Unless you can get a lot of money for it and buy a 2013-2015

My 2007 has almost 100,000 more miles on it. Mine ain't for sale. Mine had a LOT of peeling paint on the front edge of the hood. Basically no paint for the 1st 5-6". I sanded it down, masked everything off and repainted it with white FlexSeal paint. I didn't even try to match the paint and almost went with black. I think it looks fine. I got an estimate to repaint the entire truck @ $4000. I may eventually do that if it gets any worse.

I also ordered new headlight assemblies for it. The 15 year old lenses were in pretty bad shape. It looks a lot better and I spent less than $500 on the headlights and paint. It looks significantly better and I can SEE at night now.

In this market the grass isn’t always greener. What are you looking for, new, used…?
Is it paid off? you can always test the waters, take it to a few dealerships and see what they’ll offer you for it in trade, I did, but to sell outright, and was given a great offer but decided to keep as it’s reliable and wasn’t looking for a new payment.

Is the paint issue the only reason you are contemplating this??

Is the truck otherwise exactly what you want/need?

Depends what you're looking to upgrade to. Early 2nd gens top out quite a bit lower than 2.5's and 3rd gens. I bought my '08 in 3/19 right before shit started going sideways. Had $10K in it, TTOTD. Ma Toyota put a new frame under it in 3/20. I added all new suspension components at the time. Later, a new rack, A/C compressor, headlight assembly's, clock-spring, whatever it needed. Paint still very good, as is interior. Basically as 'new' as an '08 you could find showing 170K. I could make a few bucks on it at this point, but not enough (for me) to justify what I'd want to replace it with. That would be a low mile, clean, '15 V6 access cab. Those are going north of $25K-ish which is getting into 3rd gen territory, that I'm not a fan of. Tuff call, and everybody's different, good luck.

If you have a wrinkled, used dollar bill in you pocket, do you ask for an opinion on whether to spend it it or go to the bank and swap it for a nice, crisp new one? I say KEEP it....no, I say TRADE it.....no, I say.......:duel:
