I'm just posting this for people trying to figure this issue out in the future. My steering developed a small clunk/click with a weird vibration feeling at a few points in the steering wheel rotation. I could stop the wheel at one of the points, turn the truck off, and click back and forth over the spot. At this point I was thinking tie rods and or steering rack. After more research I saw one YouTube vid about replacing the Intermediate Steering shaft. The video didn't do a good job describing the symptoms though. I ended up checking mine and found that a plastic bushing had completely failed and was causing play as well as metal to metal contact. New shaft is ordered but here's a vid of the issue.
