I enjoy the front camera on my 22 Tacoma limited. I like how I can have automatically activate when I stop to see around me. I can’t figure out the black shaded segment that comes down from the top and stops in the center. Can anyone help me understand what this is?

    Oh look, another mod....

This is built in to the software, it's not on the physical camera lens and you cannot remove it. Toyota states it is a "Guide" marker so you know the depth-distance for objects in front of you.

I figured that would be the case. It’s somewhat transparent, but not sure why Toyota wants to nearly hide this part of the image. I wish they just used colored lines like at the bottom of the view. Oh well.

I stopped questioning why Toyota, or anyone else for that matter does things. I just accept that they've been done. It could be for safety, it could be to save money. We'll never really know because no one on this site was (is) the engineer or boss who made this decision. Sometimes, people do the dumbest things for absolutely no reason at all.

The only issue I have with the front facing camera is the quality is pretty low.
I can use it to avoid some of the most obvious obstacles but switching from looking over the dash to the camera, its hard to pick out most of the smaller features.

I thought it was a sun visor built into the camera.

Maybe it helps differentiate from the back up cam? That way us draggers don't get confused and destroy the garage door.
