I'm in the same place. Left my last job due to practically killing myself for the company. New company gave me more money and I've set more boundaries on my work life balance. Finally decided I was done trying to climb the corporate ladder.

I've been with a small design group for the past few years and we have a lot of proposals out right now in the $9-50MM range and they keep dissolving into nothing. This picture depicts pretty accurately the possible outcomes I see in the next 6-18 months.

My boss has tied the rope to his horse, and has already shot a few bbs at it. I'm not sure if the rope is going to untie right away, down the path a little ways or snap so fast it will flip me off the back. Either way I'm on board and there is only us right now in the wagon trying to figure out how many bbs it will take to get this thing rolling. Shoot one more BB might have the open proposals back kick us both in the teeth!

I will take those as compliments, haha. My part time job of running leagues involves management, analytics, etc..not on the level of my career but definitely something for work experience. Though it doesn't seem to matter when the culture in my career seems to be based on nepotism.

That does make sense re "doing as I'm paid". I never have and never will stay on my own time to work late, for instance. I used to be doing the production numbers expected of me plus about a third of another person's but as you said, there was the two way street at one point that's no longer there. My particular manager, whom I do like and respect as a person, is in the "go along to get along" mentality..older, just trying to get to retirement without pissing people off. To be fair she's had a lot of issues in her personal life which I sympathize fully with, though that's not my problem. I recently called a meeting with her to discuss my career advancement and my dissatisfaction with my most recent review ranking/salary increase, at one point was told she doesn't have time to help with my career and it really isn't her job. Yeah, what's that tell ya?

Climbing is one thing, to each thine own of course..many people just stay where they are at on the ladder and that's fine of course. The hypocrisy and one-sided shit though...
